@Voyagerxp, Yes I think it would be better staked. Alternatively could you ease it gently into an obelisk in the pot?  Or tie 3 canes together at the top and then tie the branches to the canes?

I like the neatness of your garden with the raised beds, and path through the middle..  it's totally different to mine... which is probably why I like it..

Must admit I just love the variety of the gardens on this forum... urban, rural, wild, manicured, bright and zingy, muted etc etc. So many ideas come from such a wide range of keen plantsmen/women...

My first bloom, an unknown climbing rose. I would be happy for an ID, if possible.
    Flowers are small, pink/apricot.

And the full picture. I inhereted it growing mostly upwards, I retrained some canes on the left and right but not the two thickest canes.
It is in a raised bed, poor and quickly draining soil, planted a bit too close to the wall and with some competition, so I guess it doesn't grow to its full size. It did repeat flower for me last year after a lot of watering and some deadheading, I got one bloom and some buds in November, I haven't been here for the first flush.

I just joined this forum today and am loving it! Of course I jumped right to a post on roses as they are my passion. Though I live in the mountains of California, I love reading what the UK gardeners are up to. Years ago Peter Beales had a forum on his website, but it has been gone for some time. So I was wondering if there is another forum any of you are on that is specifically for old garden or DA roses? This is my Wollerton Old hall from last year. Things are only just leafing out here at the moment.

@edhelka I'd be almost certain your rose is 'Mme. Alfred Carriere'...

..this is not your rose, it's one of mine, but if you could show me a photo of this section where the pink strip is.. the stipules.. it would help, and also a close up of an unopened bud that I can see there..  tomorrow sometime?...

Welcome Emsgrdn. Our resident rose expert (especially on old roses and DA ones) is Marlorena, who shortly is going to launch her own dedicated thread on roses on this forum.  Your Wollerton Old Hall looks magnificent.

Thank you @Lizzie27 … nice of you to say so, but I am rather flattered..  I try to help where I can, and keep schtum where I can't..

@emsgrdn    yes, welcome to you too, nice to see you here.. perhaps you're in N. California ?.. away from those dreadful forest fires of last year I hope..  I think the northern part is one of the best places to grow roses..  I have many internet friends from California, some live there, some in other states..

@Marlorena It could be, at least judging from the bloom shape and leaves. But it certainly isn't a house eater... could be position, soil, age, hard to tell. Also, it doesn't have a strong fragrance at the moment but it is the first bloom, it was cold, cloudy and rainy today and last few days and it took some wind battering.
The unopened bud can be found earlier in this thread, page 25, all the aphids photos are also this rose. I will take more photos tomorrow.
