    Update on Dublin Bay casualty.
Doing well in egg cup. Amazing scent.

DB sneaked up from behind and won the first to bloom in my garden race🏆
Big beautiful bloom - can't reach it to take a pic.

Lovely, B3. After LD Braithwaite, its now neck and neck between Golden Celebration and Lady of Shallot for me. The latter has put on a big spurt and is desperate to outdo GC. Weather pretty crappy here right now, but its meant to warm up in a few days - just as we are going away for a long weekend, so doubtless everything will open then!

My two desdemona bare roots that I planted about 8 weeks ago... Have finally showed some life. They are massively behind where I wanted them to be though! I wasnt best pleased at the size of them when they arrived and should of trusted by instinct and sent them back!!

Couple of questions... Has anyone else grown St swithun? It seems to want be grown as a Bush as opposed to a climber. Can it be grown as a Bush rose?
Does anyone have a suggestion for a large Bush rose to accompany 5 small Harlow car roses and various blue/purple perennials. I'm unsure on what colour and the rose would be best. It would also need to be pretty vigouros not to be swamped out by the rest of the border. Border has clay soil but good drainage and dappled shade from a small acer

I've just planted a St Swithuns to grow on a column! Would be interested to hear how others are growing it...

I’m sure your Desdemona will get there @Jason-3. I don’t have that rose but some are just slower than others, I find. I also has a Lady Emma Hamilton bare root that arrived as a pathetically small specimen with the roots chopped back to the bone, but it did fine in the end and is now just as vigorous as the other LEHs.

With regard to your Harlow Carr with blue/purple perennials, I have that combination with white in my cottage border and that tones well. Another pink might be difficult to match but how about a deep burgundy or dusky purple?

I like a rich yellow with purple or burgundy. I think the combination has a jewel-like effect.

My Lady Of Shallot took a bit of a battering in the wet and windy weather. Would it be best to stake it as there is a lot of buds forming and that will weigh the branches down even more.
