Oh very nice.. I gather it's strongly fragrant... for a moment I thought it was the 'Peace' rose, a very famous rose the world over... and on checking I see it does have 1/5th of its bloodline from 'Peace'...   lovely, thanks for showing me..

Yes I thought of peace when I bought it.🙂 It was in bloom and so fragrant that I decided on it.

  • @Marlorena I know It slightly depends on weather but how long does a newly formed rose flower bud take before it flowers on average??

..well Daniel, you've hit the nail on the head, it is very much temperature dependent and buds are just so reluctant to open if the conditions turn cool, as they are for me at the moment... but this is very early in the season in any case... once into May they start to open quicker regardless.. but impossible to give a time exactly.. each rose is different..
... I've got buds on a couple of roses that are now showing colour, I can see the pink stripes in the buds, but they've been like that for some time, and I'm getting a coldish spell for the next 5 days or so with a frost... I think they will open within next 7 days..

It's also worth pointing out for those newer to roses, that the first blooms you get on a rose are not always typical.. they can look deformed or not what you thought it should look like... don't be put off by that, it will right itself later...

All my roses are significantly ahead of the last year but still behind most of the roses in this thread. No buds here and I don't think I will have flowers sooner than in late May.

Anyway, as Marlorena encouraged all kinds of boring photos, here's one from me :) This is a thin border in my front garden, very simple, just lavenders alternated with roses and some spring bulbs. I just mulched it today.

I absolutely hated the Phormium when we moved in last year, but somehow I've made peace with it.

  • Thanks @Marlorena I knew it would be very difficult to answer and I get weather is the important factor, just generally wondered if their was a rough timescale or not which I now know their isn’t.

ive a good few newly formed buds on several roses but temperatures in April have struggled to reach doubles figures where I live and is set to continue till at least middle of next week so apart from 1 bud on my Darcey Bussell I can’t see any others opening till mid may at least unless it gets a lot warmer.

@edhelka   ...lovely photo...thanks for sharing it...  I know what you mean by Phormiums.. I have one in a pot as I don't want them in a border, ..same with pampas grass.. they're just too big for my garden... love the narrow border.. nothing wrong with those I've got plenty..

Nice conifer at the end of your narrow border too. makes a punctuation point.. I like that..

This is an odd year Daniel, everything is way ahead.. I've got roses full of buds but they wouldn't normally open before early May.. this Spring seems different, and I'm expecting late April for some of them... they only need temps in low 60's and I might get that next week.. these are my earliest 3... same every year..

..this is just waiting to open any day now..

..this rose is often my first bloomer... this bud has been like this for about 2 weeks..

..this climber is full of buds and some years it will beat the two above even though
there's no colour in the bud...  it's a race between these 3..

..surprisingly 'Munstead Wood' has a good bud on it... I've never got this to bloom before mid May before...

Rose foliage is so lovely at this time of year, so lush and colourful with all those rich ruby and bronze highlights and not a hint of blackspot - yet. If only the plants could retain that and bloom prolifically at the same time...ah well, can’t have everything!
