Lovely rich colour... they don't make it easy to find, I think they like to push more modern versions in a similar colour range. As I understand it, they make more money from them..  every year they drop a few roses discreetly from their inventory..
Poor old 'Heathcliff' came out in 2012 and it disappeared within a very few years..

  • Yes I have LD Braithwaite, I got it last summer from a garden centre either a wyedale or dobies I’m not sure.

i was very impressed with the flower colour and flower structure as well as the shrub shape of it and is one of my early favourites!

That’s my plant but it’s still very young!!

Thats a shame, it looks like they are phasing it out then. I looked up Heathcliffe out of interest, Marlorena, lovely...still available in the US!

I’m glad you like it Daniel, its definitely my favourite, first DA I bought. My original is fairly large now, pumps out blooms all summer and they really glow. I bought two more this year to make a large trio, so when the little ones catch up it should be a stunning display. It did get bad blackspot, but thats my conditions, as they all do so. This photo makes it look pinkier than it is:

  • Oh yes it’s a beautiful rose Nollie and I bet it looks amazing when at full size!!

so does it not make enough impact for u by itself?? Since u have bought another 2

It is pretty impactful already, Daniel, but at the back in a large border which is some distance from the patio. I fancied seeing a big burst of colour there, hence beefing it up with some pals!

It is a much underrated rose IMHO, Lizzie. Its always puzzled me why its not more popular, but its scent is very light. Not a problem for me, as I can’t smell most roses anyway, sadly.

Not a lot going on with my roses here yet in South Wales. Looks like summer sweetheart from harkness will be first to flower. Some buds forming. It's a glorious patio climber in luminous salmon.
Here's a pic of the buds plus a picture of it last summer.

it gave 3 good flushes last year. Scent is nice when it gets going and bees like it. After August it is prone to a bit of blackspot though.
