I had that years ago as well, I should have drunk poison, cut skin, got blind drunk, I’d have got it free then. ambulance drivers in Cornwall say they waste 200 hours a day going to calls that are not emergencies. They should be charged.

I've never heard of that, Hosta. Learn something new every day I think most decent people make a contribution after a rescue, and most regular walkers donate whenever possible, because they understand the whole process. There will always be those who blunder on regardless, ignorant and thoughtless, like they do in so many other parts of their lives. There was a young girl a few years ago who got into bother on Nevis, because she had no idea how cold it can be in summer, and if clag comes in, you lose your bearings easily - it's all scree/rock by the time you get nearer the summit. It was other walkers who helped her down. She wouldn't have survived if she'd had to wait for M. Rescue as she was already shutting down. She made a contribution because she realised her mistakes, and I admire her for that. Saw required for me today too - there are pipes [old hot water tank] needing chopped in a cupboard in fairylet's room. The joys of it all.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Think the Hosting site was doing some maintenance earlier on ... it was fine first thing, then I got the message, and then all was back to normal.
My goodness @islander ... it must be like playing the Ride of the Valkyries at full blast in a tin box, and then some!! Do you have any of the soft earplugs that rock musicians use to protect their heating ... they would soften the noise a bit.

We were doing a winter walk on the Cobbler many years ago when we met one of those ill-prepared idiots. We were struggling through waist deep snow and mist to get to the top of the ridge leading up to the South Peak when we met him. We were reasonably well equiped - we had even sacrificed beer money to buy ice axes. He was in jeans and a cheap anorak, no insulation, and sandshoes (plimsoles) with a carrier bag! He thought he would take the scenic route to the shops in Arrochar from Ardgarten. I am amazed at how politely we pointed him down the hill and suggested he needed to be better equiped next time and to return by the lochside road.
Hi all. Wet, wet , wet here and worse to come. I have had a few dealings with Mountain Rescue, having once been rescued, having been benighted on the mountain. I met them the following morning as I was walking out. They were also incredibly kind when a friend of mine died on a trip, encouraging me to help search for his body, as they knew that it would help me later. I try to give something to them each year, because although I am unlikely to need them, I know others will. As fairy has said, they do not want people to be fined, so I think all we can do is try to educate the idiots.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Not a fine for me either, just recouping costs and helping with the next rescue. As for education, if drivers who speed or drink can be "fixed" with a driving awareness course then surely idiots who go out unprepared and ill equipped would benefit from a good film show and talk about appropriate clothing, protective gear, maps, torch, water and food for emergencies.....

Just caught up again hope everyone is ok in these storms, gone from wet to damp here but very windy even here in the suburbs. Re logging on: I came on late as usual but had to log in the long winded way my usual bookmark would not work.

They did have that course, have they stopped it now?
