I tried the small glass of red wine vinegar with a tiny drop of washing up liquid thing ( I suppose any wine or any fruit based vinegar would do) to drown the fruit flies. It tempted a few but not all of them. I wonder if leaving the window open lets them out or lets more in.

There seem to be more on the outside, than inside. Not got any red wine vinegar. Got the white wine vinegar though. I wonder whether that will help?
Meanwhile, using an old cork place mat to trap and squash them on the window works, as they can't escape the larger approaching surface. However, this has not pleased the wife, who recently cleaned the windows!!
I don't think they're fussy about the colour. I squashed them against the window with a lump of wet kitchen roll. It has to be wet or they sneak into the folds and escape.
You could try spraying them with glass cleaner when they are on the window, then clean up with kitchen roll, two jobs in one. Red wine vinegar with a dash of washing up liquid - for a moment I thought this was going to be a bedtime drink to aid sleep!
B3, I just read your post here.... with a fuzzy Covid brain, and thought you were suggesting drinking red wine vinegar and washing up liquid to help you sleep. 😂 Hubby has now gone down with it. So back on the puppy night shift last night. They're all asleep now!

Me too. And I started to respond on this basis - then read the post correctly.🙃
And I make three! 🤣 As I was up so early have tried a new recipe American Apple Cake, made with a few of my picked apples. It's a bit odd with a batter mix with apples on top, we will have to see what it comes out like. I like to try new recipes, and have made some weird ones in the past. I do like to get up early in the mornings, but lately that's not been possible with getting to sleep so late, or not at all!

Maybe you are right @Ergates as having seen a specialist I now have had three good nights, despite now having eye trouble. 🙄
