Yes, children and the 3am flagellation go hand in hand.

Good idea about the radio. There is always something on R4 not to mention the shipping forecast (when it is read properly 😛)

Flipping nora I'm fed up with waking around 3am and I can't threaten myself with going to Tesco shopping now that it doesn't open 24/7. Wonder if Carlisle does ...

Hello @Uff. I had a go at a suggestion from @Dovefromabove which is to listen to the radio. What I do is to listen to something like "In our Time" with those headphones that fit into the ear at extremely low volume. It has to be almost a mumbling to work for me and only in one ear because the other is against the pillow!

I still wake at 4 am but usually fall asleep again with this method. It is a bit like nodding off and waking up and nodding off. Not perfect but better than nothing.

Thank you @coccinella. I have tried listening to a boring podcast but have to switch off when nodding so will try the earphone suggestion and perhaps some music

I spent the other night walking along the Suffolk coastline with the Radio 4 Open Country podcast ... drifting in and out of sleep with the scrunching of the shingle and the murmer of the waves while the seagulls' calls added to the quiet descriptive commentary ...

Ah that sounds bliss. I'll have a root about today to see if I can find a Highlands coastal walk. Says she hoping there won't be a blast of patriotic bagpipes at the end - if I get that far.

For a moment there you had me thinking you were sleep walking @Dovefromabove 🤦‍♀️😆
For me catnapping is the bane of my sleeping life from early hours, and makes me tired and irritable the next day

    Anyone awake?
For some reason I am … the bright half-moon is shining in through the slats of the blinds and there’s a male tawny owl calling nearby …

I'm awake Mum, hubby has his friends over but I'm not up for socialising and am trying to unwind to go to sleep but not easy when others are playing music!

Hello Wonky … you’ve got a resident DJ … we’ve got a very noisy owl … he’s been calling hoo-hoo-hoo for over an hour now.
