Jeez digging up turf is as much fun as manual scarifying.

    3 or 4 hours and I’ve cleared a square 2.4m by 2.4m.

    Im knackered!

Pulled up the pot marigolds so i can plant the polyanthus.
  • Pulled out the beets and was surprised that they were larger next to the herb garden.
Dug up the sweet potatoes. Decidedly was not a long enough season for them. Set aside some of the vine to overwinter for a head start next year.
All the tomatoes are pulled, and set on the counter to ripen. Veg garden pathway is dug out and I'm plotting to edge it with large rocks-should stand out nicely in winter.
Peppers worthy of harvesting are off, but I'm not ready to turn under the plants yet.
Now for a bit of relaxing and catching up on some gardening magazines :)

Going to try and plant some polyanthus today if it doesn't rain.

The weather has been lovely and sunny today so I have managed to get a fair bit done. Deadheaded my roses and dahlias, laid some more cardboard and compost, cried at my caterpillar-ridden buxus, potted up and cut back my pelargoniums and took some late cuttings. Oooh and divided some of my hardy geraniums, as per Monty's demonstration.

I’ve come to suspect my geraniums are in fact pelargoniums so I don’t think they’ll survive the winter.

    Sorry about your buxus!

I was expecting rain/storm most of today so switched to other duties; unblocked drain, swept leaves and started a new leaf would pile, moved things around in the garage, cleaned the windows, moved bbq under shelter...and started to organise my new toolsheds.

Cant quite decide how to hang things, and where shelves are needed, I think I might put a sand bucket in for the spades/fork...thoughts appreciated.

  • Finally got some quality time in the garden today.  Not really had the opportunity lately with a 4 y.o and 8 month old in tow (having said that I did manage to keep the both happy for 4 hours at Great Dixter yesterday).

Squeezed about a months work into a few hours this evening.  Buddleia, Lythrum uprooted and moved.  Geraniums, astilbe, brunnera divided and replanted.  New phlox into border (£1 each from Wyevale a couple of weeks ago).  A ton of crocosmia dug up - some relocated, some potted up, some on the heap.  Evergreen hedging neatened up for winter.

Still more to so.  Daphne bholua being delivered on Tuesday.  But starting to make some inroads.

This really is a great time of year for editing the garden.

Sorted out the bubble wrap insulation in the greenhouse.  Always had trouble before fixing it neatly into the greenhouse but used Command Strips this time and they have worked a treat.
Hi from Kingswinford in the West Midlands
  • Only a quick dash to the Allotment for me, but planted an Amelanchier at daughters in the afternoon.
    AB Still learning
