I have been out and done some tidying up. Top soiled some of the plants on pots. Having a nightmare with the squirrels completely beheading all the crocus I planted last year. 😡 Opened the greenhouse. It's been my first year overwintering plants in there and most went mouldy so a big learning curve there. I have taken out the survivors so hopefully they will be ok. I'm really enjoying being back outdoors.
Good couple of hours this morning , weeding , tidying up some pots This afternoon another good couple of hours at allotment , weeded around gooseberrys bushes and fetched 4 barrow loads of horse manure from communal heap
You have had a busy day GWRS. I sowed quite a few more trays of seeds, hoping that they don't get too big before I can plant them out perhaps beginning of April if weather is suitable. Aquilegia, ox-eye daisy, foxglove, hollyhock, Verbenna to name a few.
Had a few hours doing jobs today - tidied loads of old perennial foliage and rationalised my pruning piles dividing between a compost pile, garden bin and ‘good’ branches for the chiminea. OH cut the grass too. It was a beautiful day, with the cherry plum blossom setting the scene for the start of the gardening year.
I already have a plum @AnniD, but I was wondering about a peach @islander, didn't know if it would need more sun . Also wondered about an apricot.
An Apricot would do better than a peach they really need warm sun. The classic fruit tree for a cool north facing wall is the Morello cherry but how may cocktails do you drink? (Actually you can cook with them too.)
Volunteer day today more plant moving in the Japanese garden Monty Don doesn't seem to know we exist here in N London he only mentioned Tatton park & Kew in his new programme.
Would a sweet cherry do as well as a morello @Allotment Boy and yes would have to have lots of snowballs, no problem with that.😉 But I suppose I could make cakes and pies.🙄
