Sent the daughter home to London with a bag of mixed tomatoes, plus four cucumbers @GWRS ,glad to hear you are now picking. 😁
  • Took some rubbish down to the compost heap and checked the greenhouse. Found several ripe cooking tomatoes which were picked. I chopped them up and cooked them long and slow down to a pulp ready to blitz, sieve and make into passata.
It is really difficult to see if the Ozark tomatoes are ripe, they are black  on the backs and a dark red on the flower side. I have to lift each one to see the underside as they are large and slightly flattened in shape. Very few seeds so ideal for cooking.
I cannot wait to have my stomach problem sorted so I can try one, fried with a couple of rasher of bacon and a slice of fried bread. Perhaps a few mushrooms as well.

@Joyce Goldenlily, has the your GP ruled out of the newish meds they prescribed (if any) after your recent heart attack? Several of my new pills do warn of possible stomach problems. Hope you feel better soon.
Our cherry toms are at last turning red and I have picked half a dozen.
I weeded a small flower bed under the washing line late this afternoon but ran out of puff so had to stop for a cup of tea and rest. Will try to do more tomorrow and ask the gardener to weed my big main bed by the drive.

I put my wellies on and by the time I got to the garage to get the mower out it was raining! I'm worried my grass will never be cut again. It has rained every day, or night, for weeks and the ground is saturated! I will not strim an acre. I will not! I'll sit in the middle of it and huff... in the long grass... and the bugle... and the clover...
  • Hi Lizzie,
Before my heart attack I was not taking any medication of any kind so all 9 tablets are new to me, except Asprin which I did not take regularly but at least had heard of. The GP told me to stop taking 2 of the tablets and if that made no difference, to stop taking a 3rd one. Stopping the 2 made no difference so I stopped the 3rd one. Within 24 hrs the stomach cramps stopped  but not the bathroom visits which became worse and still continue. I am still not taking those 3 tablets.
I have tried raw egg smoothies which definitely calm things down so I have decided to stick with one each morning until my GP comes back from his holiday. He was adamant the tablets were not the reason for my problem but reading the info. leaflets with each of the tablets each ones claims stomach upsets can be a side effect!
The locum GP has simply repeated the blood and specimen tests to confirm the negative results of the first batch of tests. The slightly raised level of blood proteins, found in the blood tests, can be caused by dehydration, hardly surprising in the circumstances. There is also a type of cancer which can cause it so I, not surprisingly, want to get it sorted as quickly as possible. I am trying to drink 2 litres of water each day. So far I have lost one and half stone in weight which I needed to do, but this not the ideal way to do it. I still have some way to go to reach what I consider would be my ideal weight so I am trying not to worry about that aspect.
My low energy level bugs me, it is an effort to do anything, I have to pace my activities to get everything done, with plenty of sofa breaks.

Constant bathroom trips are very draining @Joyce Goldenlily and I can sympathise with the low energy levels, it sucks. I have found that higher protein slows me down, but it also tends to go too far, so it's a roller coaster ride.🙄

@Joyce Goldenlily, that all sounds a bit perplexing. Are any of your tablets Omeprazole
or Lansoprazole by any chance? They are both proton pump inhibitors and are prescribed to protect the stomach lining from the effects of other medications. I have been prescribed Lansoprazole as I'm now taking both high dose steroids and blood thinner tabs. I found Omeprazole (which I had before) worse for digestion troubles.

Personally I would steer clear of raw egg smoothies in your situation because of the salmonella problem. I'd be eating things like scrambled eggs on toast, or perhaps baked beans to give you protein on good quality bread, white fish etc. I'd cut out fresh fruit and green veg/tomatoes for a while. Try eating little and often instead of 3 meals a day to see if that helps.  We take multi-vits to make up for any deficiencies in our diet. Forgive me if I'm teaching grandmother to suck eggs!
