Anyone done any gardening today? Part 5

  • Ugh, @Lizzie27 I'd blissfully forgotten about my war with bindweed until you just mentioned it.  Not looking forward to seeing it again this year.
    New England, USA
    Metacomet soil with hints of Woodbridge and Pillsbury
  • My seeds are popping up at a rate of knots and the large containers I weeded a couple of days ago with nothing showing now have large spears of lily noses showing. I am amazed at how quickly things are growing. Watered the seedlings in the green house, put the old tarpaulin over the greenhouse as shading, it worked well last year and did some weeding and pruning of salvias.
    Ideal weather for gardening. It is pouring at the moment so an indoor day.

    @Sheps - your award for world’s tidiest gardener might be joined with chief pie master as well!

    Just planted one of Lavender plants out (a 2 year old from a cutting) into a space that used to have one. A Birch has grown up since 3 years ago so I hope it won’t shade it too much.

    Fiddled with patio pots today. They will be home to  Pelargoniums and some other sun-lovers soon. I might go for a white theme this year.
    My garden and I live in South Wales.

    Thanks @Slow-worm it's very nice... but will be even better when it's cold.

    Regards the tidy house... I think the garden and greenhouse wins hands down 😗

    @Sheps , pie looks fad 👍

    Spent day at allotment , have already hoed up first earlies  , in-fact can’t hoe them up any more
    Greenhouse day tomorrow as rain forecast all day

    Ha I was thinking that about your tidyness, too, Sheps. I was already ashamed about the mess that is my patio at the moment, but now my sense of shame has reached new depths :) (My house is just as bad, but I have energy issues. Husband doesn't though... ;) )
    Today I pricked out a load of tomatoes and aubergines, and some gazanias and nicotiana. The last of these I ended up putting most into a tray as there were so many. Not sure if they will survive. Their root systems were a bit on the puny side. Next time I need to sow them in a bigger container and thin out. I also filled some root trainers for sowing beans as soon as I can. I potted on some tomatoes, and planted up two big containers with some plug plants bought to go together from Sarah Raven. These: https://www.sarahraven.com/products/summer-fruit-salad-container-collection
    I think next up, after sowing beans, has to be the dahlias. I hope they are still ok. Of course, I bought too many. Will start them off in smaller pots and transplant later.
    I really need to do some tidying. I will ask my very nice gardener to weed for me on Monday. The lawns need doing, but that's not my department.
    Tomorrow is the big tomato (and aubergine) plant give away. I am growing about 21 varieties of tomatoes so can't really keep more than one of each, but feel a bit nervous about it. (Having no back ups.)) Maybe I will keep two of favourite varieties and can dispense with later. I will need to sort out who is having what in the morning - and this year make sure I really do have at least one of each left for me.
