I suppose it's the slight advantage of GC bought toms @purplerallim

Not really, as last year I had shop bought Tigerella, and this year they are from seed @Sheps and this year they are much further on.

I stand corrected 🙂 @purplerallim so not sure why then, possibly down to the vigour of the individual plants.

Could be variety or location as well @Sheps we have had two weeks of cloudy warm weather, not the heat/sun needed to finish them.

Little Gems and Spring Onions planted out this morning, found quite a lot of Fungus Gnats around the beds, not sure if they will harm the plants?

Going back to the little peat / peat free trial I did, these are the lettuce from the PF side of the module, grown on in 6 inch pots.

There are 3 plants in each pot and they have grown just as well as the others in the peat compost, the problem is just getting them through the germination and seedling phase, which is an issue and the main reason I'll be stocking up on peat compost at the end of the year.
  • Wow! We have had a lot of rain in a very short time, a months supply in a couple of days, but the soil is still barely damp below the surface. I can hear the plants slurping up the moisture.
My tomatoes were potted on very late so are still not showing colour but one tomato on an Ozark plant is getting really large because it is the only fruit set on the truss. I have given it a truss, oooh sounds painful, because I do not want the stem to pull away from the stem.
I am going to have to do some substantial summer pruning of my 2 apple trees and quince as they have all made a lot of new growth this year and I want to keep their size down.

Yes next month is Apple and Plum haircut time @Joyce Goldenlily
There is always something to do.
Been out weeding, and my soil is not as wet as expected after days of rain and storms.
Picked the next ripe toms Sunchocola,  but the other varieties are still sitting there. I bet they wait till we are away a week, then everything will ripen.🙄

Plus yesterday's scones and two cues.

@Joyce Goldenlily Never thought about blanching the pea pods once the peas were out. I will give it a go when I next harvest some peas. Thank you

I wandered willy nilly and did some dead-heading as I went. The grass is still too wet to cut and the rest of the week gives more rain. Oh well...ner mind.
I called down to my neighbours earlier and was sent home with a ton of seed heads. What are they? I asked hopefully. Dunno she said. We'll see next year. 🤨 I suspect cornflower but I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
I have loads of self seeded sedum krachkathewrtydherty (pretty sure that's what they're called...it definitely starts with k and has other letters in it) so I potted a few up for her. She'll keep some, give some to friends and sell some at her boot sales. 🤣
Of course there was a lot of planning...

    Nearly forgot! Ordered bulbs. 😍

My neighbour is a menace. All I seem to do is sort out stuff that she 'weeds' out of her garden and gives to me. She's a terrible woman! 🤣🤣🤣
Yesterday was more seed heads. Poppies, aquilegia, more surprises and then later she appeared with blue festuca, periwinkle and cotoneaster horizontalis to add to the last lot she gave me! Better get on before she comes back...
