Busy morning before the rain. Dug over the dry bed area and its new bit, this is full of rubble and I removed about 8 X 10 litre buckets full of the stuff. Into this area I planted 24 mixed flag iris, 5 orange plox, 5 hemeracallis Calico jack, 3 hemeracallis wild horses, 5 guara the bride and 100 gladioli blubs. Hopefully they'll all do alright. Planted 7 candlarbra primulas in a damper corner. 6 Dianthus rockin red under the large yucca. Digg out 3 large rosemary bushes which were just rubbish and a lavender.

In the veg dept I planted 40 mangetout pea plug plants, 9 spinach plants that were in 3" pots, red and green chard 20 total, 15 rocket plants and sowed a patch of carrots. Finished by weeding the onion and garlic beds.

Went out to collect a neighbour's bin spillage so, as I was already wet, went to plant a couple of broad bean plants in the gaps that hadn't germinated. Turns out they have germinated but not yet broken the surface so covered them back up. Fingers crossed that hasn't upset them too much. Replacements still at the ready though ;)

Put some lawn feed down just in time for it to get nicely watered in :)

  • not a massive lot today as the rain gods have finally heard my prayers, however i planted up a standard azalea for the front steps to give the black door and slate a bit of colour.

That sounds nice @fromtheshires - would love to see a pic when it flowers. My lutea is by my (scruffy) front door and only showing bits of green so far.  I was hoping it would flower at the same time as the rosa banksiae which is on the house wall above it but that has started blooming at the top where it gets most sun already.

I just ran round the garden putting things under cover and moving pots to safer places. Hope we don't get any damage and that the tulips and wisteria (now in bloom) don't get trashed.

Just divided 2 trays of lobelia sown in small modules and now have 160 in large modules.  Looks like they'll be a definite blue hue to the border edges this year!  :D

Put the frame up for the brassica cage, glad I decided to leave the netting to another day, I think the gale force winds would have wrecked it again.  Hope to finish it and plant the cabbage and broccoli later in the week, now it's rained they stand a chance.

I planted out 15 rooted pieces of Lamb's Ear 'Stachys byzantina' (taken from the large patch in my rear garden) in my front garden flowerbed.  I wnt them to choke out some weeding issues I have there.  I also planted my Lantana x hybrida 'New Gold' in an adjacent bed to draw some butterflies to my front window.  Both do very well in Central TX.  :)
