Been outside most of the day. Treated the lawn to some weed and feed sprinkles (will need to water in as no rain due), potted-on a few veg and refreshed a few pots. I have a Clematis Mrs Bateman (in a pot) which does flower but the leaves always look a bit sparse and unhealthy. I have worked out why, as I decided to cut it back, change the pot and move it - and it was a thick tangle of roots with hardly any soil! I have refreshed with new compost and it will go the plant ‘intensive care’ to do or die. In its place is a new Clematis - Montana Rubens. Wish them both luck! This evening I need to water my veg ‘plot’ and the goodies in my make-shift greenhouse.
My garden and I live in South Wales.

@AuntyRach pinning the montana Rubens to ideas - it’s gorgeous.
@Wilderbeast your garden looks awesome. I bet Montana Rubens would look good against a black pergola. Are you going to grow anything on them?
If it’s been windy you sometimes don’t realise how hot the sun is. I can best your May sunburn with my April tan.

@Lizzie27 they are the simple pergolas

Recently completed triangular pergola with a pivoting too sun/rain shade, this is in the winter spring garden area.

The picture doesn't do it justice but this is by far my favourite garden structure I've built. Engineered curved beams front and back, all the wood work is black, shingles on the roof have silvered beautifully on top while remaining a rich red underneath so contrasting really well with the black. All our own design and completed from scratch and a large pile of wood in 1 weekend.

Climbers are our bain, everyone bar Hydrangea petiolaris have died on us or never thrived at all.

love the pergolas! Great inspiration as it’s something I need to build, just need to decide the exact position!

Worked on new compost bins, using repurposed wood, we got several of the main bits made and painted, putting it together properly tomorrow. Watered veg plot. Doesn't sound like a lot, but managed to be out there for 8 hours.

Hoed all the beds again, I have to say that I love our fennel and they are staying but wow how many seedlings😭😭. On a similar note why do weeds only grow in the middle of your plants 🤣🤣. Finished the swing seat
Potted up the Eupatorium and the last verbena not. Sowed a row of radish, we've nearly eaten the 1st row our 1st ever crop !!! Gave the bananas a feed. Dug up a grass and split it in 2 half went back the other went to the pond area. Tea in garden, the Wilderbeast boys are camping out tonight it's always an adventure
