Back on the veg plot this morning and managed to get quite a bit more done. Finished staking all the brassicas and tidied up the last of the yellow and dead leaves under them. Earthed up my leeks and cleared all the dead leaves from the cooking apple tree that had fallen on them. Then cleared away the frosted and crispy climbing French bean plants. Just stopped for some lunch and then it's back out to tackle some thick weed growth before I can mulch the beds.
This is the first time for many years that I have sown broad beans on November the fifth which was always my prefered date, the wet winters we have had ruined the plants in the past few years, so it was stopped, just hope this coming year to have renewed success.
At allotment today , going again tomorrow & Sunday , while the weathers good lots to do Not much left to do in garden , do need to look at stream banks now that the Environment agency contractors have been strimming
Cut down Asparagus , pruned Bramley apple tree Got second hand slabs for new shed base Harvested carrots, leeks , parsnips & chard
Got the hoeing done and then picked broccoli, red and green chard, and Russian red Kale. Had the broccoli and chard for dinner and froze the kale. A satisfying day.
