Wrapped my surplus hellebores in newspaper and put them down the bottom of the drive for people to pick up - only two left over by tonight. Then I started digging out around the biggish stump to expose the roots for OH to attack with the pickaxe and saw tomorrow.
With the lovely sunshine, seedlings have grown so I was able to pot up verbena, mini dianthus, sweet peas and a few lettuce seedlings. We have also set up the moth trap for the first time this year.
Seed delivery arrived at last it's missing the carrots but we'll manage. Sowed a tray of peas for shoots then 2 rooms of broad beans, row of spinach, row of rainbow beetroot, row of another beetroot and some mint in a large terracotta pot. All being well we might just get a meal or 2
Yesterday I put up the tacky little plastic greenhouse - I can't leave it out all year round as the winter winds blow it to bits. So today I'll be sowing in paper pots to put in the greenhouse. I have peas and beans sprouting in jars of water in the kitchen: broad beans, peas and sweet peas doing well but no sign of life yet from the runners and French beans so I'll probably need to order new ones - these were all left over from last year.
The OH was snoring thunderously all night so up very early and turned my compost bins before breakfast !!! Had a very hard frost and the daffodil meadow is flat to the ground this morning
Hard frost here too.waiting for the sun to come out a bit more before I tackle the ivy on the back fence that's coming over from next door.we back onto allotments and I think on the other side is a defibrillator so I dont want it crawling over that!
