@batwood14, there was a query about bramble removing in the paper today and the 'expert' suggested you dig down about 20 cms if possible until you see some pink shoots starting to grow from the base, which you then sever from below the pink shoots, if that makes sense. He/she said it would not then be able to re-grow. Not sure if this works but might be worth a try.
Did a quick bit of weeding and pulling up unwanted allium seedlings - none of the books warn you they seed around like mad! Hyacinths are flowering now and look lovely. Cut one or two penstemons down as beginning to sprout and also found delphinium shoots coming up. Ran out of energy which is very frustrating but better than overdoing it I suppose.
In the last 3 days I have finally managed to a) cut the grass front & back, b) Prune back some more of the herbaceous perennials c) do some digging on the Allotments. All in short bursts before the rain started yet again each day.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I removed one last year which was about 2.5m tall and about same in diameter. Not an easy job...phew!
