More digging around the stump this morning. Cut back a big clump of ivy, trying to save a blackthorn from being strangled.  I too thought about roses, but when I looked the "Sheila's Perfume " had inch long new growth all over, then it started raining.

Sowed Eupatorium, Angelica gigas, Ricinus communis, coleus. Threw out verbena seedlings think they had damping off disease, they looked really happy then they've all collapsed in a matter of days very disappointed.

Managed to remove dead foliage from a flower border, to wet to do much else.

it's been dry here for a change so I hopped out to prune a climbing rose I had forgotten about. Undid all the main stems and fanned them out properly along the trellis fence.
Then I also pruned a few more roses again, defoliating them as per Marlorena's advice.

Very early to be sowing Ricin. They can,t go out until June, by which time they will be big plants.
I sow mine in April, and by early June they are usually about 2 feet tall.

Hi punkdoc, that's the enthusiasm of an uneducated gardener. It said on the packet to sow from February onwards and I figured late January was really early Feb. It's my 1st ever time growing them, in fact it's my first year growing anything from seed. Thought an early start would be good to get some really big plants but it may all go wrong 🤣
