@AnniD, I put surplus plants in plastic bags or wrapped in damp newspaper out on my drive with a note saying 'Free, help yourselves' - everything went quite quickly.

@AnniD how long did it take for your miscanthus to grow big enough to divide?
It will prob be next year when I’ll be planting seriously in the garden so I might grow things I will need more of next year instead of buying it all. Thanks x

@Lizzie27, l'm thinking that it might have to come to that. I have loads of plants from cuttings and divisions that l normally take to a charity shop for one of the local hospices. I did think about putting a box outside for donations, but l'd be worried about it disappearing. It's a nice area, but you never know, and l can't constantly be watching. I might just have to bite the bullet and give them away this year.
@Amphibios, it's around 3 or 4 years old (time goes so fast !). I was surprised just how big the clump had become.

@AnniD thank you! I’m trying to think about what I can grow from seed or grow this year that will be helpful next. Even if it isn’t in its final ‘home’ yet to save money.

Hi - I do that too, Lizzie - so at least the seedlings go to a good home.  No gardening today as we have had serious rain that has completely saturated the ground.  Sunny today, but light rain tomorrow.  Ah - April showers - whoops sorry - May is upon us - it's Spring!

I also leave surplus plants outside my house with a note to take them....got rid of extra strawberry and tomato plants recently. With the closed garden centres I think people are only too happy to take freebies.

Hello , we live in a close so no pass pedestrians , so any surplus plants we take to allotment and give to other plot holders better than going to waste

I too, thought about a donation box for the NHS and although we live in a nice area, didn't think it would be left untouched somehow, so didn't bother.
I felt lazy today (what's new) so I've only watered the peas and carrots, picked rhubarb for a pudding and the 2nd asparagus spear - it's OH's turn tonight! I'm not sure how many spears one should expect from one plant - does anybody know?

Been back at work (a giant decking in a 2 acre garden only 300yards from home) so gardening is taking a back seat again. Up early turned and watered 2 compost bins, watered the veggies, hoed a couple of beds. I have flowers just emerging on some hostas, very early for them I think.
