This weather is soo tempting  - l have considered sowing seeds, but am going to wait. Moved pots of narcissi that have been tucked up against the house wall so that l can see them, and did a bit of weeding. OH is tidying lawn edges after cutting it yesterday. Sunshine and 14 degrees at 3pm. Tea and cake on the patio. Bonkers!   :)

@AnniD Snap!!  Very tempted, but kept my mitts off the seeds too!!  Yesterday planted a 6'+ Eucalyptus Gunnii, very pleased with how it's given a bit of height,it will grow quickly, but I don't mind,it doesn't block a view! I potted up tiny geraniums, bought in the GC as I no longer grow my own from seed,or cuttings.16 for £3.95.can't grumble!
My friend living in Spain, said people are outside in coats, scarves and boots,Andalusia, near the desert!!

  • Don't wait too long @AnniD and @Valley Gardener 😉 Realized today that it's only 6/7 weeks before plants need to be in the greenhouse!! Where does the time go
  • I'm waiting to plant Cosmos,Marigold etc for filling in,the rest of the garden consists of Perennials...........it has to be easy now, without a GH,my first garden with no room for one!!

I have been out in the garden most days for the past week or so - such fabulous weather; we are radically altering the garden, mainly because we have purchased a new greenhouse so, trellises are coming down, plants are being moved, some have gone altogether (my buddleja, which didn't flower well last year and turned out to be split all down the trunk at the back and full of mould or something nasty; an old clematis armandii; a Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace', which never really took off; a large pyracantha which was impeding next door from using their side entrance somewhat, etc. etc.)  Also trying to pull back the vegetation under the tree line behind our fence to stop the ivy coming through - a never-ending problem and one which has to be done before the birds start nesting.  Hubby has been staining the fences and the shed and digging out old tree roots and rocks.  Isn't it great to be 'at it' again?  Can't wait to get down to the garden centre this week for a look-see at what's available for my now open spaces!:)

I know @purplerallim ! Normally l am a "glass half full" kind of person,  and would think we've got through the worst of the winter, but after last year..... My greenhouse is generally unheated, although when seedlings are at the most vulnerable stage (when l've taken them out of the propagator and pricked them out), l do have an electric heater that starts up at 0 degrees. OH gets very twitchy if that happens, l can see him dying to check the meter and to be honest l can see the pound notes going up the chimney as it were. I also put fleece over them, but as l normally wouldn't start sowing until mid March, l think l will hang fire....... :)
  • Mine are in the conservatory @AnniD until they are big enough to plant out in the tubs they will stay in. Usually have to pot them on a couple of times before then and end up with the conservatory and window ledges looking like a garden centre.😄
  • The first few seeds that were sown on Monday in the greenhouse have begun to germinate, so I spent some time fretting over them - will they or won't they survive until the conditions are right to plant out?  So far I have two cucumber seedlings (which will be grown on in the greenhouse anyway), a few radish and some knapweed. Other than that we have spent time doing none garden jobs and entertaining outside!

Finished my raised beds, which has been a mammoth undertaking as the ground slopes in every direction so took all day!  Got them painted, shovelled the soil back in, replanted the garlic and I am absolutely exhausted! Just need to lay the weed membrane, put the last bags of muck in and put the wood chip down. I also need to install arches but they can wait a while.. and a shed, when we have some pennies! 😁
