@AuntyRach What variety of Acer do you have? It looks lovely. I'm sorely tempted by the one that Monty Don planted on GW (Friday 10th) I feel I need a bit more autumn colour in my garden - and that one looked fantastic.
I'm a recent convert to Geum - and have two plants 'Scarlet Tempest'. I'd like to add one or two more to the garden, perhaps a slightly shorter variety. Anyway - this is "Scarlet Tempest' - I bought them last year and they're both filling out really well.
The last breath of spring In a few days they'll probably be covered in mildew, then they're in the compost, but they do a lovely job (with almost no effort on my part) until the perennials get going

Thanks @Logan4 They make a bright splash in the garden, though the fade to a much paler colour as the flower dies - but I guess that's true of most plants. 😁

I am not sure on the variety of Acer, as most of mine were inherited with the house. If it’s not Bloodgood - it’s certainly very similar. I know I have posted this pic before but I love my Acers so:
They can be useful though, @Papi Jo, if - like me - you have local youth who'd like to take a short cut across your garden... in my case I filled a gap in the fence with Rosa moyesii 'Geranium'. Very spiky indeed!
@Catherine164 - I can thoroughly recommend Monty's Acer, 'Osakazuki'. My dad planted one in the front garden of the house I grew up in. It just got more and more spectacular each year.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

@Catherine164 - that Acer is wonderful! I was thinking how good they look in the sun today and photographed mine:
