  • Lovely photos, chaps.  Thanks for kind comments re Hamamelis, but I claim no credit... it was bought as an unpromising set of bent twigs from the "reject" table in the local Garden Centre about ten years ago, and popped in a shady spot, since when it hasn't looked back.  Never flowered as well as this year though, which might have something to do with the unaccustomed ripening of its wood last summer.   :)

I can't smell Witch Hazels unless I stick my nose in them either, Chicky.  Definitely not worth the effort with this one, unfortunately...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

First lawn lawn mowing of the season. The garden looks so much better when it’s had a haircut.

Great pic of a nice haircut, @Picidae! How do you get those stripes? Mowed mine last Sat., never had done it so early! Looks like birds are well-fed in your garden .
  • I was just thinking I need to do mine soon, same here never usually start before March.

The gardener decides the stripes - usually up and down, sometimes left to right, occasional diagonally. It is as the whim takes her. She mows so much better than me, just a 21” Honda with rear roller, so I’m pleased to let her get on with it.

Ah, of course, the rear roller makes all the difference. May I ask which specific model it is?

    Hi Papi Jo,

It’s HRX 476 QX, I think. If not I’ll update tomorrow after looking in the tool shed.

  • Wonderful snowdrops, Dove! And what a tidy garden, Yvie. Haven’t cut the lawn yet, I’m trying to get the weeds out and put some more grass seeds. The weather has been beautifully warm yesterday so I was out transplanting plants and admiring the crocuses (not much else in bloom).

  • Looking like everything has woken up today!

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
