But the world goes on, people still live, we all get on, everything is well.

@raisingirl ... many happy returns cocktailcocktailcocktail  I'm sorry the day has such sad memories for you ((hugs)).  I think that view looks gorgeous ... we have about that much snow here, but it doesn't look as scenic :/

Birds have been fed ... there's a new almost totally white pigeon out there this morning ... and a Pied Wagtail ... there are plenty about but they don't often come to the gardens ... they like the flat roofs and car parks in the city.
Bread is proving and chicken joints are poaching ready to be turned into chicken and leek pie for supper.  Floors have been swept and everywhere is tidy enough to suit us ... OH is off to work and I'll find something to do to amuse myself ... the pavements are icy and the car is iced up ... don't think I'll go to tennis today.

    That’s beautiful Lyn.
We’ve gone to bed because with no power, hence no TV, it feels rather odd.

    Thanks all  :)

Cake is now in the oven - I went with almond and clementine in the end - hoping to bring a little Californian sunshine into the day. Should be ready for you all to have a slice after lunch. And I have a big bunch of daffs beside me here that I picked in the garden on Monday to brighten things up, too.

Looks like more snow heading your way, Lyn. We're still getting a few flurries now and then, but the sun is out right now, for a wonder. OH has just gone out with the dogs, the greyhound dragging her paws - she hates cold and wet and especially snow.

Happy birthday RG.  Hope the cake turns out well and brings that sunshine.

Storm Gabrielle has passed thru leaving thousands of households without leccy but everything seems OK here.   The first of the Golden Globe sailors arrived back yesterday morning - 73yrs old!.  I wouldn't have fancied being any of the other competitors still out there in that wind.   In theory, our house has insulated walls, roof, doors and windows but that wind managed to make a lot of draughts so OH lit the fire in the dining room too.  A first since we came here.    Rather nice.

LP - I too dislike big cities now.  Too dirty and too noisy and too rushed.  i do still like smaller cities and towns with pedestrianised centres but only for visits.   Country iving suits me best.

FG - good luck with the painting, especially doors.  Lots here too.  Our last house had no internal doors downstairs and all the rest were solid chestnut and not painted but I will have to do every single one here - 15 of them, of which 13 need sanding and filling first as they're a bit old and battered.

Possum is still in charge of catering and lunch is ready.  Then shopping this pm as she wants to look for clothes and a new carry on case for the plane.  I will need strength.

    Bon appetit everyone.

    Good afternoon everyone.
I'm a country mouse too. I've just been for a tramp round muddy country lanes. (Didn't find a tramp).
I was reading recently that humans used  to sleep in two phases of four hours and have two hours awake in between. I can't see the advantage of that in caveman days. Perhaps that's what Hosta is designed to do.

I've just given into my "cold" and gone to bed and slept for an hour. I'm sure I'll regret that later, hey ho.
Hubby has just made me some chicken soup. Bless'im
