Good morning all. Still very muggy here and I detected a couple of raindrops but it hasn't come to anything yet. Pleased to hear that Mr B is still making a nuisance of himself Anni. When I was out in the garden last night I took a photo of clematis Dark Eyes. It's almost black in some lights but it's the deepest purple I have seen on a clematis. Here it is:
Good Morning all. Rather a dull looking day today with rain forecast for this afternoon so doesn't look as though I shall be gardening. Maybe in between showers. Cut all the grass yesterday and what a difference that makes. Was planning on cutting the edges today but doesn't seem likely. Could not see the partial lunar eclipse so it must have been cloudy. @AnniD Mr H must have realised where his better option was and decided to return. No doubt you will be awaiting your order from SGC. @Purplerain Love the colour of your clematis. I am just pleased to see mine flowering! The cat appeared yesterday after four days absence. Initially she looked at me and then disappeared but returned later. Fed her half a pouch and then she was off again so don't feel so bad now as she must be getting fed somewhere otherwise she would have been starving. Out this morning so will look in later. Enjoy your day all. P.S. Don't forget Gardeners World is on tonight at 9pm!
Beautiful Clem @Purplerain, not very often you see them that dark velvety colour, hope you had a good day at Stirling.
@Fran IOM. Pleased to hear the cat is still around, and as you say not starving,it sounds as if he comes to you for some company, maybe his owners are at work all day.
@AnniD good that you remembered the eclipse, and also that H has decided he likes your restaurant best. Hmmm! White Penstemons sound nice, are they completely white or similar to the Huskers Red?
Deadheading today,my first flush of Penstemons were over quickly,I'm hoping to deadhead will encourage more. Still awaiting the colour of my cheap B+Q climbing rose, lots of buds clustered, but can't distinguish any colour yet....I'm hoping yellow! This is what comes of buying without a label! Have a great day all.

Good Morning all. Yesterday the weather was like the middle of winter. Rain, wind and much cooler so obviously nothing got done at the allotment apart from a quick visit to fill the bird feeders. The sun is shining now so maybe I shall get to cut the edges of the grass. Everything looked so sad yesterday with a few having been knocked about by the wind but don't think it will be too long before the sun dries everything out. At least having to stay indoors yesterday made me tackle a few jobs that I had been putting off so that took a load off my mind so won't feel guilty about gardening. One of the presents my daughter bought me was two metal garden chairs. She saw the chap at B&Q putting them out on display and thought they were nice and asked the price. £3 a chair!! She grabbed two straight away. Feel sure they have got something wrong there. @Valley Gardener Hope you managed to get your deadheading done. My penstemons aren't anything special apart from one which has really spread out. I am now looking at hydrangeas to fill my new space. Have seen one on Dobies website but don't know when the best time of year is to buy and plant out. Any ideas? Hope you are all enjoying good weather and get out into the garden.
Afternoon all @Fran IOM , before l forget, l found this link in answer to your question about hydrangeas. Hope it's of some help. https://www.gardenworld.co.uk/case-study/getting-the-best-from-hydrangeas/ Those chairs really were a bargain ! I can't believe that the price was correct. Hedgehog decided he was fed up of the food again last night 🙄 , he didn't even turn up for the water. The night before he had an accident with the water dish and managed to tip most of it all over himself. I think l've managed to capture some "stills" from the camera, but need to be on my computer to post photos as opposed to my tablet. OH took pity on me after our trip to Tatton was cancelled (turns out we could have gone after all, but that's another story), and we went to Aston Pottery and Gardens which is near Witney in Oxfordshire. It was around an hour's drive (don't ask about the return journey, at least it wasn't my fault we took a wrong turn), and was worth it. Lovely coffee shop, you should have seen the cakes ! Unfortunately we'd had a cooked breakfast so didn't even have room to share a slice between us. We were entertained by the arrival of 2 teams of cyclists who were obviously pretty professional, there were people with computers , a medical guy on a motorbike and a photographer as well. They tucked into the cake with gusto, l suppose if l'd been cycling home l could have forced one down ! Just looking at those saddles makes me wince though 😯. The garden isn't massive (l've a feeling it was on GW once), but it is very colourful, even on a slightly overcast day it was blazing out. Took loads of photos, and if there are any good ones l will post them on the Garden Visit thread. Also bought a couple of mugs. They do tours of the pottery, but we missed one and the other would have been too late. OH happy because it was free to visit, the tea and coffee came in at under a fiver, and there were a couple of pretty ladies in lycra passing by. Believe me, they look far better in it than l ever would ! Hope you have all had a good day, l will post photos as soon as l can, but it might be a while. 😊
@Purplerain, no my Volcano clem is doing nothing, have to wait for next year I think.I also have Polish Spirit, lots of growth round the bottom, but not much climbing going on.
@FranIOM what a bargain for chairs,I too think £3 was a bit of a mistake! But hey....if that's what it said...... Yes I got a lot of deadheading done yesterday,a lot of my hostas are over as well,I also managed to pull a bramble out from the top of the wall, and put a drop of root killer on the bits that's didn't come out cleanly. Bramble is a difficult one to get rid of completely.
@AnniD It sounds like you had a nice day at the pottery and garden,it's nice to have momentos of visits, what a shame you had no room for cake!! The cyclists generally are a real pain on the roads, they've never heard of single file. Hope you can get pics on of H.
We've not long been back from lunch at the GC. (Golf Club not Garden Centre) there were a few Vegan choices! Now feeling very lethargic after wine in the middle of the day! Nice and sunny now,so might have to force myself out to see how the frogs are!
Daniel Deronda blooming on the arch.

Hedgehog was making sure his girlfriend was eating alone in the restaurant when oops ! He decided to play it cool and carried on drinking from the empty dish, hoping she wouldn't notice... "I wonder what's been going on here ?" she thought as she left. "Don't think I'll risk a drink....."
@AnniD. Lovely pics of the hog family,he's so cool....😊 Beautiful Sweetpeas,I bet they smell gorgeous, and a fair bit of Foxglove pricking out, very neat and tidy, at least an afternoon play on the radios worth! I've just spent an hour cutting my holey Hostas down to ground level, just read on Pinterest that you can do this and still get fresh leaves,we shall see!

@AnniD. As usual such perfect captions for the photos. You should put your sweet peas on the jam jar posy thread. Don't think you have to have grown them yourself. How neat and tidy you are with your seedlings. Are they from bought seeds or your own? How could I tell if mine had self seeded and I wasn't just looking at weeds? Will be interested to know if you get fresh leaves on your hostas @Valley Gardener. My Halcyon hasn't grown much but has produced a flower but no sign of turning blue.
