@Purplerain, l bought them years ago in a garden centre and they have lasted really well. I have looked around for more over the years but haven't seen them since. I use them for my most precious cuttings.
@AnniD. It is strange when you can't see any reason why a bird has died but as you say it's probably nature's way. Great photo. The hedgehog can't understand who the visitor is. How neat and tidy you are with all your cuttings! No wonder you have so much success.
@Valley Gardener Lovely to see Solomon. He has the look of old Boris. Beautiful eyes.
Yet another good day for gardening. I did exactly the same as yesterday and will probably do the same tomorrow unless I decide to mow the grass. I'll get there in the end or does it ever end? Have to make good use of this lovely weather although it starts to get cold around 4pm.
A beautiful day here and think that it was generally the same everywhere. I don't wish to be boring so won't mention what I did on the allotment today as it is so repetitive. Rather than pick up the apples today I just kicked them all into the same area and then filled the bucket. Have a few easy beds left to weed but a much larger one which contains all the shrubs which are fighting for room and the lavender which has taken over and also it is much longer so may take some time. Can't wait to see what space will be revealed once I get the secateurs going. I shall have to mow the grass tomorrow or Saturday as the rain is allegedly arriving on Sunday and I can't leave it much longer. I have a group of penstemons but also one that was planted on its own and is now something like a shrub with very thick stems and quite big. It was only a small plant to begin with and I never expected it to turn out like that as the others aren't the same. Is that normal? Have a few plants in pots to go in the ground but will have to wait to see what spaces I can make for them. My primulas are flowering well and still have gladioli flowering along with my geraniums and begonias. Rather monotonous I'm afraid but no doubt most people are doing the same sort of thing. Hope you have all achieved something worthwhile today.
Had a really good day today,a lot of clearing done,Poppy seeds in ( hope they survive) And all September bulbs planted, I mustn't buy anymore as rapidly running out of space, but it should look colourful come next spring. I hope you managed to get your grass cut Fran, not much chance next week........but you never know......fingers crossed😁
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
I have been clearing the flower beds to make space for the foxgloves. The ones l planted a few days ago were beginning to droop, so l have watered them. My plan is to wait for the forecast rain before trying to plant any more ! You've done well to get all your bulbs in @Valley Gardener, l haven't even started yet ! Luckily they are all going into pots, so l can do that in the greenhouse if the weather turns. @Fran IOM, l find there's something very satisfying about clearing away and revealing spaces , l always feel like l've achieved something. Penstemons can get to grow into quite a clump if they're happy, l find. Has it flowered ? I think everyone is in the same boat, trying to get everything done while the weather is good.
A good day today on the allotment in the sunshine. Yes I have cut the grass at last but will finish off the last little patch tomorrow. The place looks so much better and more like a garden. Won't mention apples today. I think they are getting less by the day. @Valley Gardener I am sure you will be tempted to buy more bulbs and find the space for them. What bulbs I have I think I will put in a pot. @AnniD Didn't realise you planted foxgloves at this time of the year. Does that mean they should have some in B&Q? When will wallflowers be available do you know? Will try and get a photo of my penstemon as I am surprised at the size of it. It has been flowering for some weeks. Just putting a photo of buddy on the thread. This was taken by his dog walker and she has some really good ones. We should all be busy again tomorrow preparing for the rain on Sunday
@Fran IOM, look at that expression of enjoyment on his face ! "Life don't get much better than this". B&Q might well have some foxgloves in now, worth a look. Our local nursery have emailed to tell me they have bare root wallflowers in stock as well as bellis daisies, so they are starting to appear. Hope all have a good day
That's a lovely photo of Buddy @Fran IOM. How old is he?
I have just been out to the garden, and the sky is crystal clear. I can see half a moon still. There is a lot of condensation on the glass cold frame so temperatures are definitely dipping overnight now.
You have all been busy in the garden, and I am achey from the marathon yesterday. I still have a few bulbs to plant out but will get that done this morning as I am off to the theatre this afternoon. It's a race against time before the weather breaks and I doubt I will see sunshine like we have had this week until next year now.

Maybe another puss portrait.......😁
Sorry about the goldfinch Fran but glad you buried it, poor little thing.
Just to add, Solomon was on the next page @Valley Gardener but what a gorgeous boy he is. I sense a painting coming on.
