Lovely pic Fran,a beautiful dog,he's enjoying that stick, did he" fetch" from the water?

Yes you're right Purplerain,we are all trying to get things done before the weather breaks........but who knows,we may have good days in October...😁

Ooo. I wonder if I've got room for foxgloves??

Of course you do @Valley Gardener  :)
I have planted the last of mine today, admittedly some are slightly squeezed in at the minute,  but as things start dying back they will get a bit more light and room. There is nothing like watching the bees going in and out of the flowers, l can watch them for ages !

Just finished a couple of hours on the allotment. Got the mower out straightaway to get the grass finished. It was only a reasonably small area but the amount of grass cuttings made for a heavy bin bag full. I could feel a few spots of rain in the air at first so thought it best to finish and get the mower put away. Fortunately the rain hasn't arrived yet and I could carry on with the weeding. Started on the dreaded one and have only done a small area. Had to trim the lavender first to be able to cut the grass edges as it was way over on to the grass. Don't think the bees were pleased but there is plenty left for them. Can't believe what is growing there and I think they will be glad to have a trim and see the light of day. Had to dig up the dead echium. Fortunately they only have shallow roots so it wasn't too difficult but it had two trunks and was somewhat heavy. That's as far as I got as the wind was getting cold and rather dark clouds around. Did plant out my Buphthalmum which I rescued from the pound shop. Do have a plant that could be asters or flowers that look like them. Was going to cut it down a couple of weeks ago but it has suddenly started flowering again. It has multiplied considerably and has quite thick stems. Have had to support it.
@AnniD Yes Buddy loves his sticks but not sure where he finds them. He looks as though he has been in the sea and looking at his face I think he has been rolling in smelly seaweed. Looks like wallflowers are out for sale now.
@Purplerain Buddy is six now. Don't know where those years have gone. You did spend a good few hours in the garden yesterday so you will be glad of the rest when you go to the theatre. The bulbs can wait a bit longer.
@Valley Gardener I don't think he will fetch the stick. I think once he has found it it belongs to him. There will be a space for foxgloves in your garden somewhere or would you consider putting them in a pot. Don't suppose that would really suit them. We are all rushing to get things done before the weather breaks. Wouldn't it be good if they had got the forecast wrong. I am sure there will be good days to come.
What will we do tomorrow if it rains?

@Valley Gardener I 've still got the tulips and some more narcissi to do when they turn up in a week or two,  but l was glad to get that lot all done before it started to rain.

@AnniD  Well done from me too. Where will you keep them till the Spring?
What did we do when it rained yesterday? Did manage to get to B&Q before the rain looking for wallflowers which they didn't have so could not leave empty handed and came out with another hydrangea. Mature and healthy looking and a much better buy than those that had flowered and looked very sorry for themselves.
Never thought reading the forecast that I would be able to achieve anything today. It was a lovely sunny day and was able to spend two hours carrying on with the weeding. Have completed one side of the flower bed and if the weather is good tomorrow I shall carry on down the other side. Found what I think are pink michaelmas daisies which had difficulty seeing the light of day. Didn't know they were there. Hopefully tomorrow when I have trimmed some more of the lavender they may stand a chance. I have created quite a few spaces now but think I must be sensible and leave them to give space to the existing shrubs. There's no point in having lots of plants if they get smothered and can't be seen. The other side of the flower bed is on the pathway so shouldn't take so long as there is no grass edge to cut. When that is finished I don't think what remains should be such hard work. Think I should make a list of all the jobs that need doing to keep track although it's not difficult to see what is in front of you. Rain wasn't long in coming after I had finished and now it is throwing it down with a strong wind.
Not sure what the weather has been like for you @Valley Gardener and @Purplerain.
Hopefully as good as it was here.

@Fran IOM, glad you managed to get so much done :) .
With regard to the bulbs, they are mostly for a display in the greenhouse and hopefully some early Spring colour.
The ones in the larger black pots will be kept in the greenhouse as well, then when the shoots begin  to appear will either go into "posh pots" in the garden, or into the borders. I find that because they're black the pots disappear into the background and the pulmonarias etc distract from them.
We have heavy rain forecast for today with a break around 10am (apparently), which is my cue to dash to the shops.
At least the rain has perked everything up,  the garden really needed it.

@AnniD You should have a nice display in the greenhouse come Spring. I know what you mean about putting black pots among the plants. You can't really tell they are actually in pots. That's what I have done with my Verbena. Hope the rain didn't last too long.
It was pouring with rain here all morning and who would believe that this afternoon I had to take my jacket off on the allotment it was so hot! Blue sky and sunshine. So much for me thinking it would be easier going down the other side of the flower bed. I only managed a couple of feet! The lavender was very high and the woody part was way out of the ground. If I had trimmed it without going down to the woody area it would still have taken up too much room so I decided it had to go. That needed the garden fork as the roots went down some way but at least that area is cleared. Still quite a few more to tackle. I have a few others which haven't spread so much so they can stay. I don't think I shall bother with lavender again which is a shame for the bees. Will have to think of something else.
I hope tomorrow's weather will be the same and maybe I will get on top of all the jobs that need to be done. Maybe not. Does anyone?

Just putting on the baby blanket I crocheted for Buddy's dog walker. She has just had her baby boy and Buddy is now being walked by her friend.
