A chilly start, but not a bad day weather wise. Got the last of the wallflowers in and also all the daisies. I can picture how l hope it will look come Spring, always interesting to see if l get it right ! It has turned into quite a sunny evening, but you can definitely tell the days are shortening. Nice light through the grasses though. Aching again but nothing a warm shower won't fix (l hope).
A warm sunny day after the bad weather of yesterday. Knowing that tomorrow's forecast is not good with rain and gale force winds I knew I had to do as much as possible today. Not a good idea. Did too much really and beginning to feel the effects now. The time goes so quickly and jobs take longer that you think they will. Did quite a bit of weeding, pruning and tidying up only to find it was time to finish. Very frustrating. Nothing much in the way of colour apart from a few roses and the verbena and fuchsia. It's good to see plants separately now instead of fighting for space. Still have a few more to plant out and some in pots which need to go into the ground as they are struggling. Not quite sure whether my potted hydrangeas will go out before winter as I have to clear the spare topsoil to make room and not quite sure where that is going. You have been busy @AnniD. Wonder what @Valley Gardener and @Purplerain have achieved today. Maybe Friday's weather will be suitable for gardening. Hope so.
I should think everyone has achieved quite a lot @Fran IOM, I popped out just now in my slippers (naughty) to take a pic of the Heucheras as its come over very black in the valley, the dry weather isnt going to last, what a shame, bad forecast for next week too.
The pic of the Liverpool Emblem was done for OH, big fan,its done in acrylics, slightly "out" as the canvas wasnt a perfect oval.......
Heres the cats eyes amongst the Heucheras, there are Autumn crocus in there too,for when the cyclamen is over.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
That cat's eyes pebble is (if you'll pardon the pun), very eye catching @Valley Gardener. Those heucheras look really healthy ! Impressed by the Liverpool emblem, trust it is hung in a prominent position 😁. Hoping that the weather holds this afternoon as we are planning to empty the compost bins (oh, the glamour of my life). Rain isn't forecast until 5pm, but l don't hold much faith in the accuracy. Failing that, l hope to pot up a few more bulbs - l found another pack of 30 "Tete a tete" that l'd forgotten about
That's amazing @Valley Gardener! If I didn't know better I would think the cat's eyes are real. I love the way you have taken a stone and worked it so well. Your Heucheras seem to be enjoying themselves in the new planter too. I'm not saying anything about the Liverpool plaque because...football 😀.
I am psyching myself up to finish aerating the lawn (I use that term loosely) and then getting the Autumn lawn feed down while the weather holds. It's getting cold here but no frost, just some heavy condensation in the mornings. That will change soon and the dahlias will let me know. I don't know if I can be bothered to lift them, so I might just cut them down and mulch them this year.
You have been busy @Fran IOM and @AnniD so I hope you manage to achieve everything before the weather breaks.
@Purplerain. Im patiently waiting for my dahlia to go black.I bought one last year, overwintered it in the porch, wrapped in newspaper, and it had increased,so this year Ive had five. Not sure if I like them as the slugs and snails attack them,so a lot of the time the leaves are shredded. Glad you like the cat eyes in situ 😁

Quite a few posts to catch up with. @Valley Gardener Love where you have put the cat's eyes. Work of art. Your heucheras look good. I like the fact they stay the same over winter unlike the astilbes which disappear. My cyclamens did nothing this year. Just stayed the same as when I planted them out. Hope OH appreciates the Liverpool Emblem. My dahlias didn't even make an appearance this year. Not planted in a very good place to be honest @AnniD Did you get the compost bins emptied? Probably not if your weather is anything like here. I was going to say how can you forget about 30 bulbs you haven't planted yet only to remind me that I also have some which I must remember to pot up. How's the lawn coming along @Purplerain. How long a job is it to aerate it? Would imagine quite a long one. Maybe one day I will have to do mine but won't hold my breath. As long as it's cut and looking green that will do me. Tried to reduce the height of the fuchsia this afternoon with the strong winds on the way which usually cause the damage but didn't have much success as the hedge is quite high. Arms aren't long enough. Say the wall is about 6 foot the fuchsia is around 2 foot above. I was amazed at how many bees were still on it. That was all I managed as the rain then decided to come down forcing me into the shed for shelter until it was safe to go home. Not sure what tomorrow's weather is going to be like but will no doubt still be wet under foot. At least the ground is much easier to dig over. Hope the weather allowed you all to achieve something.
Not much today in the garden as I overdid it yesterday, however i painted a small watercolour of a golf course for OHs birthday later this month. I think we have a homeless cat living around here somewhere,he/she was trying to eat next doors bird food, and weve spotted it a few times on the steps to the main road.Very nervous. When it stops raining I'll take down some cat food, its obviously very hungry.
I used to find scarifying the grass a really hard job,Im glad not to have a lawn now,too old for all the work involved.
Ive just been reading the Work in Progress thread, what an amazing achievement from Baza and his wife.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Baza's thead certainly is an inspiration @Valley Gardener. Hope you managed to feed the cat, the poor thing must be starving. I think "Tete a tete" and "Minnow" are a similar size.
Spent yesterday afternoon with OH sorting out 2 compost bins (l bet Amal Clooney doesn't spend her afternoons with George doing that). Quite a lot had rotted down nicely, so he had some to mix with lawn dressing, and l spread some on the borders. Had 4 full trugs of old bedding plants etc. to put in , so one is virtually full again already. This afternoon potted up more narcissi "Tete a tete" and "Snow Baby" and also Muscari latifolium and "Mount Hood". Still have all the tulips to do, but they can wait awhile. We have a grey squirrel in the neighbourhood so l need to make sure he can't get his paws on them. Hope @Fran IOM and @purplerain have managed to get out and about - l have found the forecast to be somewhat inaccurate over the past few days !
