@AnniD Still talking about bees I had a similar thing happen the other day. Was inside shed and noticed on the outside window a bee get caught in a web so went straight out to knock it off and it happily flew off. Do we get any recognition for our kind acts? Do like the look of your tomatoes unlike some you see in the shops today. Love the pigeon having his bath. Doesn't look as though he wants to share. @Valley Gardener Talking about Aliums I saw some in the pound shop today and considered getting some but when I looked at them they were about the size of marbles so didn't bother. Never grown any yet. Chap next to me has some good ones. @Purplerain It's a shame you don't like tomatoes but I certainly wouldn't be ungrateful. Wish I could get rid of my apples. I find the bees are few and far between now and those still on the go are very slow. A few butterflies still. This afternoon I finished the outside fuchsia hedge thank goodness. Well I say finished but as it's about 7ft high there is still plenty on top I can't reach. May try and pull it down and use secateurs. Cleared all underneath it as well so that whoever mows the grass in the entrance can reach without leaving some for me to have to use the shears on. I would do it myself but I think I would be unpopular as they seem to have some sort of arrangement. Didn't tackle the privet today as my arms were somewhat aching. Went back to the weeding and cutting down and surprise surprise I found the label for that plant I was asking about recently. The one that always looked untidy and self seeded everywhere. It is Rose Campion! Does anyone else have trouble with it? Been digging it up out of the grass. Seems a shame but it would just take over if I didn't. Forgot to say that the weather was very nice. Warm sunshine and no wind. Looking forward to tomorrow to carry on where I left off weather permitting. Enjoy the rest of your evening.
@AnniD Those are some berries! Better get the thermals out in readiness! Hope the saying is not true. Think it has now stopped raining so am going to the allotment to hopefully achieve something. Will come back later.
OMG! That is stunning! Mr B is in for a treat this winter. I've never seen one with that many berries. Our Pallet neighbour says the long range forecast is for snow by Christmas,I hope he's wrong.
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Managed two hours yesterday and the rain stopped this afternoon so another one and a half hours. Can't really see much for my efforts but at least I know what I have done. Trying to sort out the flower beds with weeding and cutting down and getting rid. Have dug one echium up which has left quite a space to fill and cutting the edges of the grass next to the border. I found rather a lot of slugs hiding there but they didn't seem in a position to come out at night. Looked more like they had hibernated. Had to pull them out. There were a lot of self seeded Verbena which I think I will pot up and that way you can put them in between plants without them taking up so much space. What I have done looks good but there is an awful lot more to do. Forgot all about the privet today so will have to do that first tomorrow. The ground was very wet but made digging so much easier. Think by the time I have finished there will be a trip to B&Q. Must buy more sensibly this time. No bees to save today and I wasn't going to save any slugs. Have you all had gardening weather or more rain? Think tomorrow is going to be much drier than today.
Looking good Anni. No need for the film star filter. Did the ones in the witches hat totally fail? I thought about trying that next year, but maybe best to stick to pots.
I did get some from "the witches hat" @Purplerain , but the plant just got too big. When we had that windy weather, it just got battered to bits. I have grown "Tumbling Tom" and "Cherry Falls" in the witches hat baskets in the past, and they were fine and stayed relatively compact. This variety "Montello" was recommended by another magazine as being suitable for hanging baskets, but the packet only refers to grow bags or large patio pots as being suitable.
@AnniD Those tomatoes look delicious. Do you think I should take a photo of my cooking apples? I think they would fill a skip. Half my working time at the allotment is picking them up. I shall soon run out of containers to put them in. Started on the privet hedge. Doesn't look very professional In fact it looks as though I had a liquid lunch. As long as the worst is trimmed off I can tidy it up at a later date. I now have one long flower bed tidied and weeded. Have had to pot up the self seeded Rose Campions and still have some more to do. Will start on another bed tomorrow weather permitting . Couldn't believe how hot it was this afternoon. At least I can see something for my efforts and once the grass has been cut it will look a lot tidier. Only goldfinches and sparrows today. There don't seem to be any ground feeders around. The wood pigeons used to call but haven't seen them in a long time. No blackbird or robin either. Anyone else done any gardening today?? @AnniD or @Purplerain
No gardening for me today @Fran IOM, l spent yesterday getting rid of a Helianthus, and although it was comparatively easy, l didn't have any enthusiasm left for today ! The weather was better than forecast but l wasn't in the mood. It looks like the weather is set fair for a while, so l should get some more done, including planting the first lot of foxgloves. The nearest l got to gardening was buying some narcissi "Thalia" from The Range, and some bags of compost from Homebase ! Always nice when you can see your achievements, as there's nothing worse than working away for ages and it doesn't look that much different when you've finished . Very frustrating.

Note the soft focus - deliberate of course !
