Absolutely AuntyR  - can't beat a reheated stew of any kind, although nowadays, we aren't eating red meat, so it would have to be a chicken one of some kind. Nice to have a break from the cooker  :)

At great cost to my waistline, I have valiantly been doing a taste test, so you do not need to.
Mince pies, from Sainsburys, Waitrose and Coop tested, results as follows:
    Sainsburys...........horrible
    Waitrose..............good
    Coop...................excellent.
So, to show your gratitude, more Coop mince pies and a suitable pudding wine, would be well received.

What!   You mean you don't make your own Pdoc?

    That’s brill @punkdoc 😃
(I’ll be taking my Sains ones into work then, as they’ll eat anything!)
I watched a bit of a programme about making Quality Street and other festive treats. Apparently many SMs use the same factory for their mince pies etc but the recipes can differ re amounts of butter, alcohol etc. It’s all about the pastry I say.
    Night all.

  • Is there no limit to the lengths you’ll go to on our behalf @punkdoc !?... you have our eternal gratitude.

We’ve been nice and warm downstairs with the fire on. Now Im tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle ... OH is watching Bic & Bob. I expect the bed will be nice and warm by the time he comes to bed. I can hear him chuckling at the tv.  :D

night night all ... sweet dreams ...

I keep missing Vic and Bob, Dove. I assume that's who you meant, unless there's a programme about pens.... :D
I've never liked mince pies, doc - far too sweet, but daughter has just made some and
as I had to do some quality control,  I can safely say they're very tasty as she adds grated apple [granny smith ] and cranberries, with some extra lemon rind, to cut through all the sickly sweet sugary syrups in the shop bought mincemeat.
I love the Co-op - their stuff always seems to be good quality.
I watched that too AuntyR. Quality Sreet are my faves, apart from the orange ones. They seem to have binned the coffee ones too, which suits me. I used to give those to the children when they were little. They thought I was being kind..... :D

Your daughter's pies sound lovely, as you say the key is not too sweet, need some citrus.

Sad about David Austin, but he's left us a lot of beauty.

I always add grated sharp apple, extra citrus zest and some brandy to mincemeat.

Had to go out to the SM for a big preparation for Christmas shop as the family are coming (21 for lunch on the day but that includes 2 babies), also we were running out of stuff. Felt knackered for the rest of the day. Tree still not decorated, house needs cleaning. I've been wakened by coughing at night. Chest aches. This is not a convenient time to have a cold.

Sorry you're still feeling so unwell Busy and hope it clears up soon.   As for the house and preps, start with the essentials and get the family to help with the rest as they arrive.

One good thing, I heard on the radio that the gilets jaunes are being evicted from their positions blocking roundabouts and shopping centres and so on.   This might amuse you tho.   Saw this photo with a caption in French....  "Sh*t, they're starting their apprentices early!!"
