  • My heart was set on a peach or pink rose,to climb over an arch, I shouldn't have taken hubby as he talked me into a deep red one called "Mushimara" however it bloomed well all summer,into Autumn,and now one little bloom left! It's been very mild so that's probably why it's hung on,but it never minded the rain!

    @Marlorena

    Hi Marlorena, do you know/remember how much the DA roses were discounted by when it came to the end of bareroot season?

    @Mr. Vine Eye ... at least 15% as I recall, but it may go higher... I'm being honest in that I've forgotten exactly but they did a 20% in November on their Standard Roses for the Black Friday business...
    ...  I know Beales roses offer 35% and even 50% towards the end of season but I don't think Austins go that high... it's usually 15..   sorry I can't be more certain, I no longer have my receipts or emails with the offers..

    I've bought five rose plants from a local garden centre today all £4 each.

    Not sure why I picked up the 'Remembrance' one on reflection, I don't really like red roses.

    I'll give them a go. If I decide that I don't like one of them, at least I know they didn't cost me much! Still planning to get some more Austin roses later on but waiting for a discount or code to appear.

    Benefit of being able to pick them from the centre rather than ordering blind online is Incould choose ones with good looking canes.

    You've gone rose mad MR vine eye ;) , I give Arthur bell to my mum for a gift nice rose and scent. Have you considered planting partners for the roses ?

    I have, it's true. Totally mad!

    I have thought about what to plant with them. I want the borders to be cottage garden like. So I'll have lots of alliums, Lavendar, foxgloves, hardy geraniums, penstemons, salvia, astrantia, echinacea maybe.

    Im going to get lots of seeds and have my first go at growing them from scratch. I'm starting with quite a blank slate of a garden.

    i started a thread asking for suggestions for companion plants for roses in a north facing border a while ago and that was helpful.

    Just ordered some more roses - found a promo code and I couldn't resist.

    Ive ordered Mortimer Sackler, Royal Jubilee and Kew Gardens.

    Really excited, but no more roses this year, I need to save some money for plants to fill in around them.
