Thanks for that explanation re tuincentrumlottum, Marlorena. I did wonder why some had different names... you can order less than 10, today I received 7, but you have to factor in the post and transfer costs as you say. They are a bit late (probably christmas post) so the roots were nearly dry but have plunged them in a bucket of water and I am sure they will be fine. Here’s how they arrived, as you say, good roots and all look strong plants, wrapped in black plastic and boxed:
I bought Gruss an Teplitz, Wild Rover, Absolutely Fabulous x 3 plus two more RD Braithwaite (my favorite red, does really well here). I vowed that this lot are going to be my last
A merry, rosy Christmas everyone, especially to Marlorena for her wonderful advice!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Mr Vine Eyes, just unearthed the magazine. It was the Dec 15th one and the website address is www.YouGarden.com/GN646. They are advertised as 'Old English Roses' 5 for £14.95 plus £6.99 P & P. Don't know if the offer is still open though, but it doesn't have an end date that I can see. Might be worth a look.
Thank you. Growing with it I have a double flowering, white Clematis 'Arctic Queen' They look lovely together. Have a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year

@Marlorena Have you got any recommendations for a large minimum 15 - 20ft + repeat flowering rambler or very vigorous climber? I can't find many large repeat flowering ramblers but for Paul Noel and some other which I am not sure are repeat flowering, MME.alfred.Caririere has interest me as well. I want to to climb along a 12-15ft and climb on top of the shed next to it. Not to bothered about scent / colour but it would be nice if it were scented.
@Perki … I don't recommend 'Paul Noel' as its flowers are spoiled by rain and it will look a mess... 'Mme Alfred Carriere' would be the ideal choice I think, considering the height you want.... it can take a while to get into a good blooming rhythm though in my experience but worth the wait...
A number of rambler roses do repeat in smaller doses, but 'Malvern Hills' [yellow], would be better than most at that, and would reach the height you require..
'Albrighton Rambler' lovely though it is, spoils in rain, so I'm told..
Other climbers I personally like, but are a bit shorter maxing out around 15 foot or so, would be.. .'Penny Lane' [blush pink].. 'Awakening' [pink, double].. 'Sombreuil' [white, double]…
'Ghislaine de Feligonde' will also eventually reach the height you want, but each flower is on the small side, not everyone would like that, but flowers in a mass of bloom, and continues until autumn..
Back in the day you would have been recommended 'New Dawn', but unfortunately for some of us this rose has become problematic, and I no longer recommend it personally..
Good luck with whatever you pick... choosing a rose is half the fun I think..
Hope you don't mind me commenting but we have Penny Lane. Although a larger flower, it smells nice and does not spoil in rain and flowered well and over a long period even this last hot summer. The flowers are beautiful and though I too prefer a smaller rambler type, this is nice. There is a photo here, my better half took, the colour is not pink like New Dawn but a little bit towards apricot? Seen it described as champagne but not so sure. https://wabbits.piwigo.com/picture?/620/category/14-from_the_garden It was our new Dawn replacement.
Perennial blue is a good repeat rambler here. Good luck and have fun choosing.
Thanks Marlorena & Rubytoo nice picks. I already eyed Ghislaine de F a while back for another fence ( your fault Marlorena ). I do like Malvern hills but wasn't sure it would grow big enough along with a few other, do you think most of the austin roses / other rambers would grow bigger than it says? any opinion on Aimee Vibert - Alberic barrier ? Got my eye on albrighton ramber & phylis bride.
'Aimee Vibert'.. beautiful though it is, is regarded as slightly tender.. and I would prefer to see it on the south coast, as it would prefer warmer dryer conditions... some blooms can ball in wet weather... always a problem for Noisette roses.. also I'm not confident it would attain the height you are looking for.. 'Alberic Barbier' is quite a rambler, very quick to grow, won't bloom much in the first season, but likely to make no less than 20 foot of growth.. I've had it... when flowering well, it will continue sporadically into autumn, it's one of the better ramblers for repeating somewhat..
Here's 'Phyllis Bide' at Mannington... it should reach the height you want... I find the colour mixture a bit muddling, but I don't dislike it.. each to their own.. I was quite startled when I saw this rose on the wall..

I think I'll get Rhapsody in Blue - the Austins I'll wait and see if I can get them at a reduced price.
