They've arrived! I was very excited when I saw the Royal Mail van out of the window, practically ran to the door. Delivery man looked a little less enthusiastic than I did, ha!
They both looked good and healthy and I planted them. However by the time I'd finished it was too dark to take a photo unfortunately.
Kew Gardens is not in stock at my usual supplier here so I'll wait and see if they get it again. I expect it would be OK facing north and out of the midday sun. It's the gentle colour and simple, open flower I like and hope the pollinators will too.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

I don't know where you are in France, but as long as you get winter chill you would be ok for this rose.. that's the main reason I think why it's not recommended for warm climates that are frost free... this rose may not do well on the south coast of France, southern Spain or the southern Med for instance... some roses, like apples need winter chill and a period of dormancy to flower well and this is probably one such... I know it's popular in eastern Europe and Scandinavia, northern climes.. and of course no problem for us...
This pink climbing rose is 'Coral Satin' [intro. U.S. 1960]… it repeats well and is strongly fragrant... my photo but not in my garden, unfortunately..
I planted a bare root Kew Gardens here in Spring, now it’s about 3ft high and 2 ft wide and I’m hoping it will grow up and maybe ramble a bit to cover a scrappy bit of terrace wall. It’s facing south, but to the east of my house, so it mostly gets morning sun. Got some blackspot and had it’s leaves chomped by something but it does seem to shrug all that off and keep growing, even now in November:
€7.00 from Dutch supplier, www.tuincentrumlottum.com if you are interested @Obelixx - I bought 10 bare root roses from them, mostly Austin’s. Postage to Spain was €14 for the 10. All grew well and got lots of blooms in their first year, actually KG flowered the least, but lovely pure white blooms, so be interesting to see how it fares next year, after the frosts!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Hi Marlorena - I've decided to move the wisteria I planted this year to a different spot in the garden. I shall tie it to a tree stake and grow it as a standard.
That frees up the wires on my shed to grow another rose.
That side is west facing but doesnt get Full Sun - sun from midday until 6pm in summer. Less as the sun gets lower as its right next to a north facing fence. But I'd say it still gets decent sun and reflected light in the morning from downstairs windows.
Id like a short climber/large shrub to train against the shed. Its going to be next to The Generous Gardener that I planted in November on the adjacent fence.
The shed is painted Country Cream so Yellow or White roses would probably blend in too much.
I was thinking of something mid-pink to deep pink or purple to go with the Generous Gardeners very pale pink.
One that you've previously recommended which may be suitable is 'Strawberry Hill' - I've also seen 'Gertrude Jekyll' - that are the right sort of colour and sound like good options. Thorny shouldn't really a problem as it won't be directly on a path or near a door.
What do you think of those two and do you have any other suggestions for some good reliable ones that you've grown?
Opinions from everyone welcome - I tagged Marlorena because she recommended the strawberry hill on here originally.
