Yes Fidget, I’m beginning to think that our lecturers were wrong. That’s the trouble of attending teaching institutions, you tend to take their word as gospel. Never mind, it won’t worry Hosta since he’s got it planned where he has put the shredding.

Thanks for the info and concern @Pat E. I'm raking it out as a " standing out area" so inhibiting growth is actually a benefit.

Fidget - that prog was hard to watch, but also necessary. The scale of the problem is unbelievable, and I expect many people, like myself, had no idea just how horrific it is. Why on earth did we do away with the 'money back on bottles' thing?
Been 'green roofing' the bird cage. Couple of adjustments to make, and add two little catches [ just to prevent it frisbee-ing into the house in the wind  :D ] but it's up and running. Goldies have been busy again - what a mess they make though! I ordered some fine wire mesh to make a ground feeding table, and I got two more pieces to fix under the feeders. It's just arrived, so I can look at that later possibly.
Still a chilly wind - cosy waistcoat over top and fleece is necessary, but it's dry.
Glad you had a good time Liri. Have you got pix? Shame about the foliage, but not much any of us can do about windy weather  :/
More driving with daughter later. I made sure the first thing she knew how to do was  stop. It's all good... ;)

In theory I have photos, Fairy, but at the moment (and here I'm missing the embarrassed smilie!) my mobile phone is in Ireland, where I managed to leave it tangled in the bedclothes when we left our daughter's house at 3.30am yesterday...  She'll send back the SIM, which is fine since I need an upgrade.  It isn't cost effective to send the whole phone - it would have to be couriered, I think.

Here's one from our August visit to Loch Derg (County Clare)...

We have been for a long walk on an almost empty beach at Longeville.  Great stuff because we could let them both off the lead  - dogs not friends.   Very breezy but warm out of it.  No cafés open so we drove to La Tranche-sur-Mer where they went camping about 20 years ago.

They had waffle, churros and croustillons respectively.  I tried one of the last but it turns out it’s just a deep fried ball of donut dough so horrid.  OH managed to eat all 13 with salted caramel sauce.  She enjoed her Brussels waffle but he could only manage 3 of his 8 churros with white chocolate dipping sauce so has brought them home to have with coffee.  Yuk!  I had a small slice of spiced carrot and banana cake when we got home and have been on watering duties since.

Going to be warmer tomorrow for Les Sables d’Olonne.  Fish and farmers' market, restaurant bu the yacht basin this time and then a walk along that beach.  Lovely stuff.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Did the friends have to stay on their leads?
Just back from Docs . Typhoid and Polio jabs. Preparing myself for an achy arm tomorrow.
Another, huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge delivery of chippings this afternoon, oak and beech it seems. Divine.

    That's what I was thinking Hosta!  :D
Hope the arm doesn't hold you back tomorrow.
Don't think I'd have fancied those delicacies either Obelixx  :/
The carrot/banana combo would have been perfect though.
Lots of chores done, including cutting the grass, and organising some timber I've had for a while which was to finish off the top of my screen. If the weather's dry enough tomorrow, I'll get that on, and the top side painted. Daughter has finished her sign for the hog house, soI'll varnish it and attach it if possible.]
The golfinches were 'charming' as ever. One was sitting on the small feeder, which is slightly exposed at the moment. The wind was making it swing, and I swear it was only on it for that. He didn't eat anything for ages, just sat there - rocking happily from side to side.  :)
Took youngest for another drive round the B&Q car park. Not quite so successful today - she stalled it more often than she drove it. As long as she has enough cash in her bank account for a new clutch, it'll all be fine...  :D
