Spent over 2 hours this morning chatting to daughter 1. Then another half hour chatting to OH who is in Norfolk. Got up very late as I watched recorded TV until 1.30am, stuff OH didn't want to see but I did. Where has the day gone?
It's sunny but I spent an hour in the veg garden clearing up a huge barrowload of past it stuff and weeds. Now middle finger is really swollen and tender. Shall make beds for son & family who arrive on Monday, instead of gardening. Also ironing to do so I'll watch The Cry while I do that. Another prog OH doesn't want to watch.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I've recorded The Cry too Busy and OH tells me has 3 days of golf planned this coming week, carefully starting his week on Monday so tomorrow's doesn't count. Maybe I can watch it then.
Here we are in the second half of October and I need to water a bed so I can weed it and plant bulbs for next spring. Mad. I think the persimon which has been cut back so only the wild rootstock is left will have to come out as, even tho I have removed stems and lifted the crown, it still sucks up far too much moisture and has no redeeming features other than being a nice shape now.
Hope your finger eases up soon.
Chicky - in case you odn't pop in again, have agreat time on your cycling hols. I hope you get decent wetaher for it and a following wind.
Dove, with one or two rare exceptions, home made bread is best. Enjoy.

I think The Cry is brilliant. Enjoy I have a doc about Sam Cooke and the whole mystery about he died. Might see that later. What a talent and influence that man was. # A Change is Gonna Come is one of the all time great performances, IMHO. Diana - my slabs are on a slope, from the left end of the box down to the right end, hence the extra timber on those blocks. There aren't any at the other end. Slope runs away from the house, which is at the left hand end of the box. The slabs have been well laid though, which helps Smirry rain on again, so I doubt the washing will dry, although there is a breeze. Not good for me using the drill either, so I came in for some lunch. Could have timed it better though, and had some of Dove's nice bread Are your thighs nicely prepped chicky?

Love Sam Cooke songs FG. A nice little highlight in Witness too and it was already a really good film on so many levels in IMHO.
We had naughty fried potatoes with our lunch. Bacon and baked beans for me and OH had bacon and mushrooms he picked from the "lawn" this morning. Always gets them too late for me tho, after they've opened up and gone all black around the gills. He's still with us.

When Wonky was a little 'un we always had homemade bread ... I made two batches (3 loaves at a time) each week ... it was only when I worked full time that I stopped making our bread. Now the farm shop has closed and we can't get the lovely organic wholemeal from there, I may well bake our bread more often ... I enjoy making it ... my paternal grandma taught me ... her father was the village baker in Guilden Morden and his father before him etc ... must've been in the 1800s.
I've been a huge Sam Cooke fan since the 60s ... such a voice, such a talent ... have so much of his stuff on CD ... love to listen but sometimes it all just makes me weep.

I enjoyed Witness too - excellent film. Talking to daughter yesterday and we realised we've had no red meat for about two weeks. Chilli/bolognese made with turkey mince, and cottage pie made with Quorn. That was even better the 2nd time - I had the leftovers last night. A couple of pasta dishes with tomato/veggie sauce, and chicken the rest of the time. I'm not counting my birthday fish supper either Daughter thinks it's making a difference to her digestion. I must admit - I'm not missing it. We don't eat lamb, and rarely have pork in any fashion apart from an occasional sausage casserole. Unfortunately for farmers, there will no doubt be a knee jerk reaction to the BSE outbreak up north, and people will abandon beef in their droves, but for us, it's been about cutting it down, or out, as much as possible. I wouldn't be brave enough to pick mushrooms from thegarden ...

FG - I went to see the film with OH and 2 friends, one of whom, as always, fell asleep and the other, who reads every book on the Booker list every year and not just the short list and also thinks life is too short to see a musical or Star Wars, muttered and moaned all the way into the cinema about Harrison Ford not being able to act. She was completely engaged by it and very cross with the script writers because "He was going to stay".
Flumpy, why aren't you enjoying the sun?
I have been out and planted out 6 each of red and pointy cabbage plus 6 caulis and 10 oak lef ettuces but then ran out of psace so teh Savoys and sprouts have had to go in 4" pots while I wait for OH t do some serious hoeing and weeding. I can't cos of a naughty trapezius muscle that needs a good seeing to. Now to tackle the pots either side of the front door.

When you move, let the removal men worry about it. You just need to empty it so they can take it as one piece or dismantle it. That's what our chaps did and we had old wardrobes they just took down, stacked together using sticky tape and a bag for all the screws and doings - not IKEA stuff but old fashioned stuff made with proper wood. Ours also moved lots of shed and garage shelving and hundreds of pots varyng from 76cm high or wide down to 10. I just made sure all the wee and medium ones were in plastic basket trays for easy and safe transport.
