Oh SNAP @Fairygirl 😆. I got the same funky veg kit a couple of years ago from my daughters boyfriend.
The purple carrots were awful. Enjoyed the yellow courgettes though, they were fab.

Thanks Kitty 2. I have found a web site with a list of veg that you can save seeds from so this will help me. Just need to find a fruit site with information.

Kitty - I enjoyed the chard - so I've bought some seeds for this year  :)
I don't think the weather was conducive to the carrots, but the ones that grew were pretty uninspiring.

    Loving this thread, this year I will be growing ;

    A Grappoli D'Inverno
    San Marzano
    Black cherry
    Purple bumble bee
    Marmande
    Sungold
    Tappys Heritage

I do grow San Marzano every year and I agree with the blossom end rot. I normally grow in pots on my patio, but this year I will be growing all in the ground using halo with wormcast, bonemeal, calcified seaweed and and empson salt added to the hole.

I grow tomatoes in hanging baskets (the deep cone type). Which have recommended a variety called "Montello", so l'm going to give that a try.

I grew tomatoes last year in my lean too and were very successful but I bought them as young plants from the garden centre. Some of them could have had more flavour imo.

I would like to grow from seed this year for the first time. Are they reliable from seed? I see that some of you only sow a few seeds so looks like a good record for success. Is that correct?

I would like to grow a medium sized one, a couple of cherry types and a beefsteak. Any recommendations please? Looks like Sungold is the winner so far.
    Thanks

I only want about 3 of each variety, I have sown 5 of each, all germinated, now I won’t be able to throw them away, and so it goes on each year😀

Sounds about right @Lyn have done the same,  expected less to germinate but have a good success rate at the moment.  Suppose some might end up a bit weedy, so there may be some selection to make yet.

Don’t you feel sorry for the weak ones and try your best to bring them on 😇

I usually do a couple of seeds in a small pot [3 inch] then keep the strongest looking one for potting on, or split them depending on how they all do.
They mostly seem to germinate very easily Morag, although perhaps some varieties are easier than others. The seed keeps very well too, so an average packet will last several years if you're only growing a few plants  :)
