Great news for the 4 boys they've rescued and their families and, of course, all involved in getting them out. Good luck to them for the rest and well done to that assistant coach for keeping them all together and safe till rescue came. That's quite an achievement.
It's hot there and I am hiding. The main problem is that, as the sunset last night around 10:30, some big fête to the east of us let of a huge firework show and when that finished we had thump thump from their disco till 2am. Couldn't sleep thru that tho OH was OK cos he went to be and fell asleep in the firework phase. As I tried to drop off he started snoring so I didn't get to sleep till after the 6am cuddle call with Comsos.
I did go out to sunbathe for half an hours but now I'm getting messages that sun cream is poisoning the oceans. Doing my bit for plastic waste but can't change fair skin.
Dove - last spring, after a very dry winter, OH took great delight in using Sally and a tow rope to haul out a few dead "dwarf" conifers and another I decided was in the wrong place. They're fine in the right place if you have the more interesting forms or colours but not the dull green blobs that just sit there. However, we didn't lose any other plants to drought except for some I brought with me and planted out and then had to rescue back into pots for TLC. Established shrubs did OK in a 15 month drought but the grass did look sad and brown.

I think that would be a grand idea re those lads. What an effort it's been by everyone involved. Those divers [and everyone else involved] have put their hearts and souls into it. If there's really a God - there has to be good outcome. The top of the cairn is all shiny steel, and the engraving doesn't show up very well - certainly not in the bright sun. Not sure how well the pix will turn out - may have to do a lot of tweaking to see the inscriptions. It's a mighty fine looking cairn for such a little hill!

Not just the boys and a parent or two but what about their siblings? This whole thing is going to lead to psychological consequences for the boys and their families even without media intrusion and follow up and then, what about the heroic divers and other experts caring for the boys and helping get them out? Nice gesture but not thought thru I fear.

There is a move to get the rescue team involved too ... I'm sure some sort of special something will be done by FIFA at some stage ... the lads are a football team after all ... and yes, their coach has done really well looking after them ... probably not the best planned trip but ... since it went wrong he appears to have done everything he could and he's not very old himself. The lads must have tremendous faith in him to have stayed strong and coped so well.

Home at last. Not a busy day, but , flippin' 'eck there are some nutters out there. I was driving along a single track road, with a car behind me and a motor home came along the other way. Is it just me who thinks protocol dictates that the single vehicle reverses when there are two coming the other way? Both driver , fore and aft just sat there.......... I got out and said to the guy behind me, i reckoned the camper van wasn't planning on moving, so we both did. I got to the next customer, still on single track and parked outside. Land Rover came up behind me and just glared at me, engine running. By the time I'd finished the drop , there were 3 of them backed up. ( serves them right for taking sneaky back land "short cuts" to the beach). As soon as i could , I pulled in and let all three pass waving ,and calling out thank you. Carried on a while and there was a wee tractor straight across the road. I thought maybe the driver had come off and was in a ditch so I went to investigage. No, he was herding some sheep from one field to another. I hadn't heard about the boys in Thailand. Fingers crossed for the rest of them . I can't imagine how they decided who to take first and who to leave behind.
Hi Hosta - no, I totally agree re the single vehicle. Problem is that people are ar**holes - plain and simple. Maybe they thought you could take off and hover overhead so that they could get through..... There was a kn*b on the road today who waited till I was almost on top of him then he pulled out of the layby. I was doing 70 and there was traffic in the outside lane, but apparently I had the issue.... I believe it was the four lads who were struggling to cope the most that they took.

Unfortunately , it's that time of year. The place is filling up with campervans and caravans, and shiny clean cars with "pods" on top, mostly driven very badly with no consideration of anyone else. I'm sure they think we're all on holiday and don't have anywhere to go which is why they drive at no more than 60% of the speed limit.(even when it's 30mph) Maybe this post should be in the Curmudgeons thread? I've just had a nice chicken Caesar salad. yummity yum yum.

It's a shame the final's less than a week away now ... a couple of weeks might have been more do-able.
