Talking of pergolas falling over, son-in-law put up their garden fence south of Poitiers last year. He concreted the post in, then there was a gale and it blew over so he put it up again, more concrete and buttresses. Daughter has planted it with climbing roses and honeysuckle.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Huge sighs of relief here as Possum has handed in her thesis before the 5pm deadline. Another late night proof reading and a last check at midday and now it's all printed and bound and handed over. Fingers crossed they like it. Chatted at 2pm and she asked if I realised we had it all to do again in 2 years time. "Can we please do it without the panic and last minute abdabs?" said I. Anyway, now I can leave the phone and go and do some gardening.
Good luck with the posts Dove. Good pics tho river estuaries always look a tad muddy and dull to me and smelly too at low tide but I love them at high tide.

Punkdoc. what I do when I'm that situation is to say, right 15 planted , 30 to go , that's 33% done. Once you've planted another 8 , you can say " more than half planted" once you get to 30 planted, "66% done" etc. Just tick off each little milestone along the way. For me, it never seems just so daunting that way.
Pergola perfection has not yet been attained OH is having another cup of tea ... what is more the measurements shown on the diagram do not conform to the actual measurements of the assembled pergola ... consequently the garden bench will not fit between its legs ... we will need a new and smaller bench

Have managed to get the first 15 or so Dahlias planted, just another 30 or so to go.
