Hope that thumb improves today Obxx - its certainly taking its time.

Pat - Chicklet’s knitwear is back out of the wardrobe too  :open_mouth:

Had a good day in the garden yesterday - hard work digging over a patch of border that had been completely overtaken by wild strawberries and grass.  Managed to save some of the plants in there (leucanthemum) - they are now in quarantine in pots to make sure there’s so grasses still mixed up with them.  I’ll plant cosmos there this year, so I can give it another dig over in the autumn.  It was a warm day so had to stop for a few hours in the middle of the day and just soak up the rays.

work today .....why do weekends go soooooo quickly  :/

Plans for the pergola? Well, there's already a golden hop established close to one side and I suspect that try as we may, that will wander over to the pergola a bit ... on the other side I'm thinking about a C. viticella in a plummy pink ... possibly 'Abundance' but no decision has been made yet ...

Chicky, I’m not surprised that chicklet is reaching for her warm clothes. I’ve been watching the Adelaide weather and thinking about her.

    Morning all.
    Two items of great news.
1: I had over 9 hours sleep last night (do I have to work 13 hours to get a good sleep?)
    and , even better
2: Waitrose have just called to say I'm not needed for driving this afternoon.
A day in the garden beckons.
I've now heard 3 people say quietly , under their breath " we could actually do with a bit of rain" Unheard of " in these parts "

Oh no ... he's an Adnams or Tribute man  :)  and this hop seems to be a male clone anyway.

@Hostafan1 ... I woke at 4.30am  :o  read for a bit then went back to sleep.  OH brought me a coffee at 6.30ish and I drank it and then went back to sleep again ... only now am I out of the shower and ready to start my day ... not my usual routine ...

Dove, I can recommend C. Vit. Black Prince for the pergola. The colour would look stunning near golden hop

Late start for me - lying abed reading.   Tut.   It's grey skies and damp here but not dull.  Don't tell OH but I put the sprinkler on the sweetcorn, garlic, Charlottes and tomatoes beds last night so, of course, it has rained this morning.

I have to do some more work helping Possum analyse her data today before I can hope to go out weeding.   Thumb no longer painful but I can't sew so no patchwork group for me today.

Glad you've had a good sleep and get a free day Hosta.   There's something quietly comforting about getting out the warm woollies and fleeces Pat but my feet always mutter about proper shoes and slippers instead of flip flops.  Quarantine and cosmos sound like  a good strategy Chicky.

Dove - I tried Black Prince in my last garden, with a golden hop funnily enough.  BP disappeared and the hop went on a world take-over bid so I pulled it all out.   I've just planted I am Happy which is a similar dusky pinky red to Abundance but with interesting bars on the tepals, especially on the back.   I always think the back of a clem flower is important on pergolas or arches that are seen from all sides.

Obs, I agree about world takeover attempts by hops, which is why I said " near " . I too have learned from experience that Golden Hops does not put up with bedfellows for long.
I'm glad the thumb isn't as bad this morning.

The hop gets chopped down every year and a lot of it gets pulled up too - it's on the edge of the veg patch where I can be quite ruthless  ... I am in control ... I think  :/

The clem would be about 8 ft away at its base.
