I grew an assortment of courgettes and pumpkins last year and was pretty disappointed but assumed it was the drought. Growing different varieties this year and will keep them well watered. OH also managed to get half of them mulched before he disappeared which should help.
Sounds like a good day Busy. I have a garden visiting day tomorrow with our club. Morning visit followed by a picnic in their barn then 2 visits in a village just 5 mins from here in the pm and one of them also happens to have a nursery and shop..... I have made the Wisley café banana cake to share at the picnic. There's another day arranged for the 1st of July but that'll be 3 gardens on the Ile de Ré and one is jungly and one is succulents. Not really my thing.
Lots of photos is good given most people seem to start house hunting on the net these days. We certainly did and so did the people who came to view ours.
Have done a bit of weeding outside but, despite watering 2 nights ago the soil in that bed is very dry already and I'm out all day tomorrow and Monday so more watering and planting up can wait till Tuesday. Ditto my new strawberry bed. On the other hand, the things I planted in the shade bed yesterday are looking fine.
Have finally given the last rites to 3 orchids, now in the compost bin, and a chance to one more, now potted up with its roots trimmed and fresh orchid feed sticks. Don't like them much so not bothered either way.

Your day going round gardens sounds blissful, BL. Glad your house is being properly marketed too - as Obelixx says, lots of good photos makes such a difference.
Just about to go and pick the strawberries again. The neighbours are all out, so I may need to turn another pound or two into coulis, jam etc. I've found a recipe for strawberry and prosecco iced lollies - not sure they would really be appropriate for the grandchildren... but I'm sure they'd love lollies made from mashed & frozen strawberries...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Hi folks, Got back from a week at secondborn's last night. Haven't read back as there are so many posts it would take ages. Hope everyone is OK. Weather is looking good for my trip down to Devon on Thursday. Will be visiting lots of gardens. Really looking forward to it.
Hello ... we're back and I'm snuggled in bed with the radio. Beautiful wedding, beautiful bride, beautiful Wonky I'll tell you all about it tomorrow ... in the meantime I'll just tell you I've been reliably informed by the family member who is impressed by such things, that I'm entitled to be a Freeman of the City of London and drive my sheep across Tower Bridge or whatever. Now that might just have been useful 25 years ago when I had a flock of Southdowns ... it's not a lot of use to me now There's a beautiful mackerel sky this evening ... night night all ... sweet dreams
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Morning all. Absolutely glorious morning and I'm on coal face duties all day long. Hubby reckons he'll finish painting the house today ( photos to follow ) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44590366 Let's hope we've learned our lessons and the failings of A: British Rail, and B: "privitisation". France and Japan have about the best rail systems around, part private, part public , let's learn from them and get it right here.
isn't it fab. I saw one forecast saying it's to be 29C next Saturday. Hurraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. We had 30C+ at the same time last year. Cue the moaning minnies " it's toooooooooooooo hot" What happened next? It rained non stop for about 8 months.

Giant Hogweed in Usk Castle. As my neice said - they are “maffizz” (massive) !
