I do remember her Hosta. I quite liked her. Wonder if she still broadcasts?

I remember Gay Search  :)  she wore polo necked tops or scarves as she had a thyroid condition and is patron of the Thyroid Foundation.

I always wondered if there was a reason for the scarves.

I really enjoyed her series on small front gardens.  Lovely stuff and very do-able for ordinary gardeners with ordinary plots.

I'd forgotten about that on @Obelixx.
I seem to remember her as being very knowledgeable in an approachable, non patronising way.

I remember her too - inspired me 21 years ago with a whole bed of annuals sown in situ.  I couldn’t believe the results and tried it myself next summer .....and thus a gardener was born 😀😀😀

    great greenhouse Fairy 👍🏻

Hello all. 103 new posts since I was here last! Been busy.

I had a great day out yesterday with the Hautefort Gardeners Club. Got back at 9pm.

First we went to a bonsai nursery, chap did Japanese gardens for people too. Then to a botanical garden full of trees and shrubs from all around the world. It was divided into sections for each country. Lots I hadn't seen before. He had acid soil so there were gorgeous blue hydrangeas. There was also a polytunnel full of big flowering cacti.

Then we went for lunch in Collonges la Rouge, a pretty village built of red sandstone, now classed as a historical site.

Then off to 2 more gardens. We got lost so when we arrived at the first one there was no one there. The others in our group had left and the owner had gone out, but we had a look anyway. The second garden was gorgeous, full of old roses and lots of character. The French couple who owned it were so enthusiastic and said they loved showing their garden to other gardeners. They also do B&B.

Yesterday was late 20s here but about 21° at the last 2 gardens we visited near Ussel. Cooler in the Massif Central, the mountains in central France. The 4th garden owner said they often had snow in winter and it could be very cold, over 700 metres, 2300 feet. They were about 3 weeks behind us, roses at their peak, well over here.

The 2nd estate agent and photographer have been to take photos. They were here over 2 hours and took over 70!

Going to Son 2's later this afternoon, Son 1 and family are visiting. We'll stay for dinner. I mustn't forget 3 year old grandson's birthday pressie.

Hi BL, sounds like a lovely day out. I'm hoping to go to a local open garden and then to a plant sale at the botanical gardens afterwards, that's tomorrow afternoon. Hoping for some inspiration, or just a nice look around.

I hope you enjoy it, Mrs. Garden.

    Just read back.

Interesting to see Dove has had success with her Zucchini Romanesco. I tried them, but not Sarah Raven seeds, and they had no flavour whatsoever. Maybe they don't like the hot dry climate here in summer. Maybe they weren't pure bred.
