This morning I did deadheading, and generally tidying up ready for a visit from a plant enthusiast this afternoon - had a lovely couple of hours with her snapping her favourite plants.
Moved a few things about to replace dead stuff l had pulled out. Soil was surprisingly easy to dig, the rain we had a few days ago made more of a difference than l expected. OH pruned Escallonia hedge, then we had the excitement of a trip to the tip, with 3 bags of green waste. One was huge, but l managed to assist OH with tipping into the container under the watchful gaze of a young, healthy looking employee. Shower and a cup of tea with cake, and that's me done for today.
I cut down a Hebe "Broughton Dome" which had started to die off in the heat. As far as I know, once branches are dead, they don't regenerate. I'm not too upset as it was getting a bit big anyway and encroaching on the lawn. Will have to get OH to dig the roots out and will plant something else there in the autumn.
Yesterday & today I moved my poorly Red Robin from a far too shady spot to a sunny position which this morning was showing signs of life again and moved 1 evergreen bush a couple of feet (what a Rotter to dig out) to open up the end of the garden. Moved 2 grasses that have over grown the path to a couple of spaces on the shady side of the garden, time will tell if that’s a good move. Dig up some Japanese anemone root and planted it length way to see if I can get a few extra beauties from this plant. If only we had more day light, I would still be out there now.
I watered everything, as it hit 28C. Again. Deadheading, aphid squashing, sweet pea cuttings, appreciation that things look fine despite this extreme summer.
If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need. Cicero
After my volunteer day watering & feeding at Capel manor I did it all again at home until it was too dark to see. Waiting till this pm to go & do same on Allotments, too hot to do anything more strenuous.
Just pottered around in the morning, deadheading bedding in pots, taking dead bits out of the hedge and watering a sick looking box ball in a pot - the second to go sickly so I'm a bit perplexed as to the cause.
