    "Will they flower in a fortnight? ". Could be.

    I have pottered successfully. I twiddled, watered, weeded a bit, moved things about and back again, investigated Dr Jamain. I have decided (almost) to take out my wisteria, although I suspect that just cutting it down will bring back a monster next year, set on taking on London.

    I had tried putting in some small foxgloves and ammis but they have been terribly mollusced, so have taken them out again. I have shelves of stuff ready to go in but can't risk it yet. The sunflowers are almost there, cosmos, sweetpeas, but I don't want to lose months of work. This year is worse in my garden for snails than slugs, so pellets are proving no help.

    It's been thundering all afternoon in a satisfying way, but no great rain.

    Ah, yes - “terribly mollusced” (@Fire) is very frustrating! 😂
    Most of my plants that are on the mollusc diet plan are in pots these days, to minimise the carnage. I thought my Astrantia was robust enough to be planted out, but today I noticed the only two flowers from yesterday were missing... with a suspicious slime on the stem -ggrrrr!

    My garden and I live in South Wales.

    Went to small local GC & got netting for strawberries, got a bit wet putting it on the bed but at least it's done. Hoping the rain softens the ground where my brassicas were last year so I can finally dig & plant this last area.

    I think we need straw for our strawberries AB, the slugs (despite the lack of rain) have nibbled at the first ripe strawberry.
    I added yet another oxygenator to the pond this afternoon, planted 3 more foxgloves and a geum in the driveway and watched the tractor cut the "weeds" in the field in preparation for the wild perennial flower seed sowing in a week or two. I hope we have made the right decision.

    GD2 I managed to do my straw last week while it was dry I put slug pellets down first, so if they try hiding underneath....

    I started to plant out the bedding plants in light rain, then hit concrete 4” down in one of the new borders. I resorted to clearing weeds and rogue jasmine while I figure out how to deal with the border issue.

  • Does knocking on strangers doors and asking if I can have the pallets in their garden (provided they are not going to be using them) so I can make a wee raised bed for salad stuff count as gardening?

    If not, then no, I haven't.

    @Purplerain

    No one at home at one house, neighbour said to try again tomorrow around tea time. There's around a dozen of what would be ready made planters all stacked up, looks like they are for the skip as there is nowhere in the garden they could possibly go. I'd cut one in half, which would be all I'd need and use the other half to make a rack thingy for plant pots to sit on, herbs and the like. Maybe take another couple and store them in case I want to make a raised bed in the front garden next year (provided they are getting launched that is).

    The other is using them for the same reason I'm looking for them and has very kindly said if they are still there in a few days I can take them (she was unsure how many she needs), but if they are away I've to keep checking back as she gets semi regular deliveries and will let me have what I need once she has what she needs. Which was nice of her I have to say.
