ICU for foxgloves, ammis and cosmos. I did a big GC trip to get grit and emergency tomatoes.

Emergency tomatoes?   :) Sounds interesting @Fire.. do tell.

I planted some seeds direct today.  Tall variety green beans, runner beans, and three variety of peas.  I had intended to do more, but it was super windy.. so I actually ended up doing a bit of house work instead.

Quickly managed to mow the lawn this evening.

Its just me and baby tomorrow for most of the day, so I’m hoping to do a little garden shopping, maybe paint a few more panels, and finish the arches for the vine and the training frame for the hops...might just snooze a lot though ;)

Put in a number of veg seeds into the garden.  Okra, purple bush beans, three varieities of cucumbers, kohlrabi, radish, and soya beans.  I have a few other things to put in, but that will have to wait to tomorrow.  Going to the local nursery tomorrow, and will likely come away with something fun to add.  I'm hoping for some Sungold tomatoes, as I never managed to get seeds this year.

  • I have just planted out the first of my late 2017 clematis plugs - Montana Grandiflora.  Has anyone grown this.  Mine is just (approx) 10 inches with a good root system which I have repotted 3 times and plenty of strong shoots - I don't let them flower the first year and restrict in year two to just a few flowers. Too hot to do much else.

More weeding for me today. I have a bed with some mature shrubs but the ground level is a mix of weeds and Spanish bluebells etc. until the perennials grow up. Now is the time I cull the bluebells and whatever weeds have decided to show up so the ground is tidier to show off the Geraniums, Phlox, Anemones etc. I will finish it tomorrow and give a mulch. There is a lovely Peony in the bed but it is a bit hidden by a Quince, so I’m thinking about whether to move the Peony, or drastically prune the Quince... bit of research (or advice) needed there...

From torrential rain on Thursday night and soaking wet plants in pots, to blue skies and very warm sun! So basically just checking over things and a load of dead heading today.

Did from 10 am to 7 pm in the garden today and I'm absolutely knackered! a Freegler took away the woodpile and we shredded the rest. Emptied out the cold frame prior to moving it but later changed my mind when I realized it would get more sunshine where it was. Put down some Terram fabric behind the shed and under the storage bin. Split a new Geum "Queen of Orange" which was totally potbound and planted both bits. I now have four Geums, but all different orange ones. Hope it looks a bit like Chelsea in 15 days time! Moved lots of bits of wood to various hiding places. I just cannot get rid of wood that might come in useful one day - same as pots really. Painted the Asparagus raised bed and weeded the gooseberry patch. Tottered to the house for a well earned drink at 7 pm - dinner had to wait while I recovered.

Are you having an open day Lizzie? If so hope it goes well🙂

I was waiting for it to rain all day yesterday and it finally did in the early evening, collected another 250 litres of water, good because I was on the last butt.

Made a keep and cull list, depending on performance this year. I'm converting more of the front garden to hard standing and want to find spaces for the nice stuff.

Cleared a heap of clay from when I dug the pond (as it has started to deteriorate) in order to plant up the area at some point. I was going to move some heucheras from the front but then I thought I might use the area for more geranium phaeum as they are such a good plant.

Moved some things that were in unsuitable places. Am trying two actaeas in full sun as they keep getting eaten in the shady border, will see how they get on.

First roses and clem flowers appearing, good stuff🤠

Yesterday, I put out the bedding plants and sweet peas, and dug the spaces for two new rose shrubs.  Knackered. So, I watched cricket on TV with some Pimms.  All in all, a great day.
