Went to plot today, nice calm day sorted out new tarpaulin (silver one) shed looks so different without it will be good when get real roof done - took a while kept some bits of the other one and will go to tip with some as well, had a really good bonfire to clear a lot most artichoke stems
Haven't been able to get to the plot as often as I would have liked. I've been when weather allowed. I've almost completed replacing the side fencing to the plot , with posts in and have started nailing up the wire fencing.
I've lots of free flower seeds too but have still ordered sunflowers and marigolds for 2019. Just waiting for the king seeds order of vegetables.
Currently in Swindon , going to Nieces wedding Saturday then back home next week then back to Swindon again for Christmas , can’t see me getting to plot until New Year Maintance , pruning and burning a mountain of Jureslum artichoke stems
Went to plot today last day of shop open this year and found out sheds have been broken into over night yesterday to today - my end of site by someone coming in shop telling us, so went and looked there was damage to sheds across road from plots near me
We are having a mini plot inspection in Jan. A number of plot holders had let their plots go towards the end of the growing season without any hint of weed control or development on their plots so they were asked what their intentions were and whether they wanted to keep their plots. More a gentle prod and wake up call to remind them not to leave their plots till March and the beginning of the growing season or they will be playing catch up all summer.
We have ten allotment sites in our borough each has a warden who runs and allocates the plots and the council inspect twice a year or if the need arises. two thirds of each plot must be kept in cultivation at all times.
From 2019 we have set up help for new allotment holders to give them the encouragement and help to plan their new plot, as we all know the first year or two can be very daunting, a survey in the spring found the main reason people gave up was because they found it hard going in that first year.
