@Lyn and others, just be careful when installing software and/or browser plugins. These may gain access to your computer or browser data. If you are happy to trust them, fine, but sometimes you just swap one evil for another. There are even ad-blockers that show ads! I don't know if the one you list above is good or bad - just be cautious about installing software blindly.
Not wanting to single out adblock, but even in their own help they list their software requires permission to:
* See every page you open.
* Read the data on the web page.
* Change the data on the page.
This makes sense for the software to function, however this data and permissions could be used in nefarious ways. As in collecting and selling your data just like the ad networks, facebook, google and other companies do.
The New York Times ran a story about Adblock Plus (another different piece of software), that replaces adverts on sites with other adverts.
This is probably going to put the kiss of death on things but I have used Adblock Plus successfully for several years now. I would not be happy with a 'built in' blocker.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I'm not wanting to spread fear. I think ad blockers and these projects are incredibly useful and laudable. They can make websites and your computer usable again, and can even prevent people installing evil software through nagging pop-ups. The open source blockers (ones with freely available code) are arguably safer as many eyes can spot any potential nasties. It's just a trust issue.
Change of topic- my User name reverted to my old name took me a while to remember how to change back it seems I am not the only one @NoraGW any idea why this is happening?

Me neither LB! I would rather choose. about companies collecting data, they all do that, you don’t even have to be a face ache subscriber for them to collect your data. I have now got rid of my laptop, not for security reasons apart from the cost of the super anti spy ware I paid to have on there, and I don’t think it’s so easy to extract personal info from tablets. Could be wrong here? You just have to be careful. Clicking on dodgy emails is a good way to spread your private details around the world but I think everyone is wise to that now. Ive been online for many years, no problems, you have to trust at some point or you’ll live in fear of them.
