Those who have sent me their technical details appear to be using an up to date version of Google Chrome, but running on Android KitKat 4.4 (a 2013 operating system). Google no longer provides security updates for KitKat, so it is effectively unsupported. In this case, as the issue appears to be related to a fairly old operating system using Chrome, we can't do anything about it. Aside from using Chrome, the forum officially supports the latest operating system, and the previous operating system to that, which in this case would be Android Nougat 7.0. It doesn't mean that the forum wouldn't work on devices older than that, but it means that some features may not perform as they should.
Thanks Nora. Rather than try to change anything else I will continue to access the site through my ad blocker. I'm not very techy and afraid of making things worse.
Maybe it's just my old laptop but when all the image tests were being done they all loaded instantly but now though some do, some tick down very slowly not always in chronological order. So if there are multiple picture sometimes I see blank screen followed by pictures, then slowly the space above fills with the intended picture. Odd.
@NoraGW I don't have any issues on v.fast (200mbps) BB but apart from the normal image size issue in posts (even I see some photo's loading slowly), I've noticed some user's avatars are also slow to load so suspect a few of those may need looking at too.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Surely all sites accessible to the public have to be 'insecure' ... the only secure bits are where you put your personal details in.
The secure bit is the encryption of the data between your browser and the server. There is a general push by the browser vendors to always notify when there is an insecure connection. And to use a secure connection if available.
I suppose an insecure analogy could be using postcards for correspondence.
@nora I've had no problem posting photos from my phone until last week. I even posted at how delighted I was with the new forum last month. Now I can't post photos and the photos on the site are dreadfully slow or can't be seen at all. My phone does automatic updates
@NoraGW How are improvements coming along to enable people with slow Internet to see photos? Now I'm back in France I can't join in with the Garden Gallery or plant identification threads at all.
I really miss the format of the older forum before any changes were made, it worked much better with slow internet and the email notifications were so much better. I've had to stop the email notifications on his one there are so many of them.

It may be possible for you to update your device's software - you can do so by following the information on this page: https://www.wikihow.tech/Update-Android-Version-on-Tablet
It would also be worth switching browsers to see if you're able to post pictures that way instead - there are several alternatives to Chrome.
I would still encourage anybody facing this issue to please get into contact with me, via PM, or by emailing [email protected].
Slow loading images
We're still planning to reduce the file size limit. We're encountering a few delays, but I'll let you know when this goes live.
