Think it was just a bigger version of my granny's old cast iron hand cranked Spong mincer that left a permanent dent where it was clamped to the scrubbed pine kitchen table

Morning all. We're off to Wiltshire this morning to "rescue the pergola" at the home of a former client. She's already been on the phone telling me where they've left the key for their annexe ( they're at their London place and we're staying overnight ) and asking what we'd like for lunch today and breakfast tomorrow. We're eating out tonight. I might even get the roses done between bouts of copious eating. Nice to see you both Topbird and Punkdoc. Two days away, then Opera on Saturday ( Tosca ) so it's just as well I'm not at work on Sunday. Lots to do
That sounds like a lovely break Hosta - hope you enjoy yourselves.
Dove's tale about the shrimp paste made me laugh because the shopping lists I do for me read something like -
toms
mush
flr
If OH is going shopping it has to read -
tomatoes - small plum, small punnet.
Mushrooms - portabello - 6.
Flour - self raising - small pac - own brand.
Sometimes it's quicker just to go and do it than write it...
However, since his retirement he has done the SM shop more often. He now knows that toms before meat or fish mean fresh toms. After means tinned. Always write my shopping list in the order I walk round the store - which causes lots of problems when they reorganise or it's a different shop
Glad your meal was tasty anyway Dove
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
We've often done supermarket shops together, ever since we first moved in together - I usually do a list each ... I'll buy the fresh meat, fish etc as he gets bored queuing at the counters and OH gets packets, tins and bottles. He is usually pretty good, knowing which brands to get ... I just put porridge on the list and he knows our current favourite, and also knows which laundry products we use. At one time he used to memorise his list (always at least 20 items, often quite a few more) and then give it back to me ... he was very rarely wrong!
He thinks I set a trap for him yesterday with the 'shrimp paste'

Your memory of Shippam's paste pots with little flowers in rang a bell with me, Dove! Though I think ours were filled with daisies and buttercups...
Topbird, I have exactly the same shopping list regime, depending on whether OH is doing it or not. "Meat for stew" is not a concept he understands. And my local Morrisons has just reorganised half of its aisles so I need to re-learn the order in which to write the list.
Your weekend sounds great, Hosta! Enjoy.
OH has just read out a joke from Twitter. "You think you're going to have a lucrative career making homeopathic wine, and then you realise you're just treading water..."
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Wet and damp here just now, been out done a bit of shopping, bank etc. I to remember little posies of flowers in paste jars on the window sill or on the tea table on a Sunday.
Opera sounds fun not been for a while when I lived in London I would often go to ROH and occasionally take a trip to Glyndebourne. I believe they have the UK premiere of Barber Vanessa directed by Keith Warner, conducted by Jakub Hrůša. I might try and get tickets for that.
I do believe its brightening up out there so one more coffee and need to check the washing n TD
OH nearly forgot have two new baby pumpkin seedlings this morning
"A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."
Since we've moved here we do the SM run together and, depending on which one it is we'll go for coffee in one or take the car fridge and do the fish market too and then have lunch or just come home. The SMs we use are all organised slightly differently so I just keep the list in the order of the most frequently visited tho last week we found they've added a whole new sales area and done a major re-org. Took ages.
I make a shorthand list and send him off to look for distilled water, Tonic zero and safe stuff while I mind the trolley and do the picky stuff. He empties the trolley on to the belt and I stack in bags organised for easy putting away at home.
Have slept in very late today but my headache seems to be gone. Cosmos woke me occasionally to play. His paws are mostly OK but every now and again one of his pads erupts and we get little blood spats where he walks. Looks like a "feature" so we'll just have to keep an eye on him.
Have fun pergola hunting Hosta. Nasi Goreng sounds good Dove. Have to be able to improvise. Good to see you popping in Topbird. Hugs Pdoc. Take care Yvie. Easy does it. Have a great day everyone.
Wet as forecast here and I have 3 soggy critters to rub down......
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
