Brrrr. I’m glad we aren’t that cold at the moment, although we are finding the 30 c days a bit trying at the moment. Very sweaty weather.

Yes Hosta, but we are really fed up with dripping in sweat all day and every day. I DO sympathise with your -11 though. Enough is enough! Time for moderation in our seasons, I think.

  • Just popped around to NDN ... he's 96 and not really mobile, he lives on his own with carers coming in several times a day.  He was ok ... still in bed but a bit chilly so we turned his heating up for him ... the carers have contacted him and someone is on her way ... I suppose that because all the schools are closed the carers have childcare problems .......... anyway, he said he's fine for now and he has our number ... we said we'll keep an eye open and if the carer needs us he can tell her to pop around.

OH has topped up the bird feeders and put a board on top of the snow in the back garden and scattered suet and sunflower seeds on there for the ground feeders.

The snow is coming down thick and heavy again ..........

BL .... if you don't have to come I'd say stay where you are ....... travelling isn't going to be good here for the next few days ........ even my son who has driven in the snow in Russia is using a friend's 4WD to get around in Suffolk rather than his beloved Alfa Romeo ...

  • A car that was abandoned at an angle on the road outside our house earlier this morning is being dug out with shovels ......  to be honest, I'd leave it there ... they won't be able to drive it up the hill .... I suppose they can reverse down the hill and abandon it in a more tidy manner elsewhere rather than blocking the drive opposite  ......

I know it's hard but such cold snaps in the UK and northern Europe are not unusual for February and won't last.  Just be very careful if you have to drive - not just dodgy road surfaces but other drivers who don't know how to use their gears to manage snow and ice.

It is very cold here too at -6.5C and so very dry and windy.  I brought more treasures into the annex last night and they seem to be recovering from their cryogenic experiences.   Set to be snowy or sleety on frozen roads tomorrow but warm in the pm so we're thinking of raiding the SM a day early to avoid bovver tomorrow.

OH has found the staple guns, hiding in a 10l paint pot in a cupboard in the annex.  Guess who put them there.   Chair seats this pm then.   Itching to sow now but will wait a few more days.

Keep warm everyone and stay safe.

  • Yes, it's hard for some ... particularly for the elderly and the infirm and those with child care problems ... of course it's not that unusual but the more reliant we are on motor transport the more it impacts on people's lives.

We don't need to get out any further than we can walk ... some people don't have that luxury.

We have had a bit more snow overnight, but only a dusting.

The neighbours cat appeared yesterday lunchtime, left at 10 pm, back at 10.15, slept all night next to hubbys legs, went out at 7 am, back at 7.03, crept under the duvet and went back to sleep.

I don't think he likes the snow much either.  He has had a couple of sachets of food, some of last nights lamb ( he always appears if I am cooking lamb), and a drink of water from the tap. He won't drink water from a bowl so I add hot water to the sachets of cat food to make it soupy.

    Morning all.

Like Fidget, a bit more snow overnight but, with the sun out, it has already gone from the shrubs.

Hosta, you might be able to skate across the lake soonimage

Busy, I agree with Dove re staying where you are rather than not being able to get to the cottage.
