Rather a memorable day, BH duly gonged in style. Many thanks for all the kind wishes. Well it was all very tasteful and beautifully choreographed with HM The Queen on fine form making everyone feel special. You really do have to remind yourself of her age when you see her "in action", I think she may be at least 27 .
Haven't seen so many Lifeguards and Yeomen of the Guard in one room before, the tourists in the rest of the castle would have been very excited. The Countess of Wessex's string quartet provided the very eclectic soundtrack - classical, jazz and rock standards all featured. Surreal experience hearing Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve, written by Jagger, Richards and Ashcroft, being played in the Waterloo Chamber while Britain's first spacewoman Helen Sharman is honoured.
Avoided motorway routes so travel went smoothly including a very enjoyable celebratory lunch in nearby Bray - no, not in the Fat Duck! Definitely in need of a cleansing ale this evening to wash away the stress and excitement.
Hosta, take the sick note!!! Look after yourself and rest!!!! Xx
Hi Clari, are you holidaying near us then? Did Dove sell you the campsite?
Pdoc, we all have our limitations, its only when we don't know them that they limit us!
Dove, think I'm gonna request Joyce goes shares on the turmeric commission, can't think how many times I've recommended it! Xx
Lovely drive in the country today, treasure put into Diss auction to sell Friday morning so fingers crossed!
Step womble the wonderful arrived earlier and is with her Dad chattering away by a log fire lasagne the size of a doormat in the oven and two sticks off strong garlic bread to go with it, light larger all round, pretty much perfect
Recent winds have dried the garden out a good bit so managed a fair bit of cutting back done before daughter arrived at 3pm.
Niece had a horror drive for part of the way home last night. Blizzard conditions and thick snow in Tyndrum area (which Liri knows from her train journeys) Had to rely on the snow poles to let her know where the road was. Fortunately there was no other traffic at that bit.
Obelixx, re daughter's leg.....4 months after contracting cellulitis, she is still having weekly dressings of manuka honey. The ulcer healing is a very slow process.
Wonky, are you going to attend the auction next week?
Wow Steephill! What a day! The music sounds amazing let alone all the other celebrations! Congratulations to BH, so glad you both had a lovely day
Joyce, I hadn't even thought of that, might be fun! maybe I will
Your niece's journey sounds horrendous! Glad she got home safely! Hope you have a loively time with your daughter best wishes to her for a more speedy recovery for her leg x
Hope you feel better soon, Hosta. It's not good to get that cold... do you know anyone with a wet suit you could borrow, for the remaining lilies?
I had a lovely time at the GC this morning, though I managed to resist buying anything with roots on... just some seeds, and spuds for lunch. I did make a long list of desirable plants though - and had a great time catching up with my friends (and former work colleagues). The manager of the trees & shrubs section is convinced that people have largely stopped proper gardening; he is no longer allowed to buy in bare root shrubs in Autumn because they don't sell. Most people buy their plants in flower, rather than when dormant.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Lily Pilly, my kilt tartan is Modern MacDonald based on my mother's side. I think my BH chose it to match my eyes on a Sunday morning
