We always buy several large Crown Prince squashes from the farm shop each autumn and keep them in the garage over winter.
This summer a 'volunteer' appeared in the veg patch ... presumably from our compost heap where the seeds get dumped when I make squash soup ... the volunteer was duly nurtured and despite it being on the shadier side of the patch it produced and ripened a fruit, a bit smaller than a football but a lot larger than a grapefruit ...... we stored it with the others in the garage and today I'm roasting it to make some soup ... I wondered whether it would be true to it's Crown Prince heritage and it certainly appears to be so ... a beautiful golden orange inside and lovely firm flesh ... all chunked up, tossed in olive oil and roasting as I type .....
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Congratulations on the sleep, Hosta. When do you return to Blighty?
Definitely not American, Obxx. Or not in the main, anyway. Apparently it came to prominence when used in Boys from the Blackstuff (Liverpool) and Coronation Street (Manchester). Which might explain why I hear it in a Scouse accent - although I didn't watch either of them, I associate it with Brookside .
Glad it's good weather for your sewing marathon, so you don't feel torn!
According to the weather forecast the rain should stop this evening so I'm hoping Lumiere London will be less unpleasant to visit than it would be at the moment. It's very soggy indeed. Just got to do a bit of planning this afternoon as there's too much over too wide an area to see everything. And of course, a bit of revision needs to happen too.
Ta ra for now.

'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
A litre and a half of roast Crown Prince squash soup made along with two smallish wholemeal sodabread loaves ... that'll be fine for lunch for a couple of days ... now OH knows what I do on Saturday mornings while I listen to Rev. Richard and then jig along to Graham Norton et al ..... think he supposed I spent all day on the sofa noodling with you lot
He's just cycled down to W'rose for a couple of lemons and some beer ....... that's this evening sorted

Morning all.
I seem to have been asleep for almost 11 hours last night.
Still hot and sunny and last night was certainly a lot less cold than those of late.
Our lovely German "neighbours" went home last night but have promised to come visit Devon in the summer. I do so hope they can make it.
I hope the worst of the weather has passed and that things are settling down.
Good morning. I'm camping on OH'sPC as mine won't play. Very wet and windy out there so a good day to carry on sewing. I've delegated cleaning to OH.
LG I spent my teen years not far from Liverpool and never heard anyone use that exoression. First time was a US programme. Enjoy the light show.
Good sleep Hosta. How long before you get home to your hostas?
Time for a quick look round then back to that machine.
Morning Obelixx and Hosta and any others I've missed
Soup simmering ... just about to make some oatmeal soda bread to have with it ...

Morning all.
Blue sky and sun this morning making me feel a bit perkier so may venture into the garden.
Glad to hear you had a good night's sleep Hosta.
Obelixx, you must be longing to get the sewing completed before your Paris trip.
